The Land of East and West

Thanksgiving in Berlin......never would have thought that would happen! We flew into Berlin on Wednesday at about noon and hopped a train into the city. After meeting a very nice girl from Berlin who spoke better English that most people from the United States on the train, we arrived at the Friedrichstrasse Terminal. We quickly found our bearings and walked in the direction of the Hostel. After we had settled in and warmed up a bit, we were off to find lunch/dinner since by that time it was about 4 and we hadn't had lunch. We found a very nice place on Friedrichstrasse and had some delicious soup, brats, and of course....beer. After dinner is was already pretty dark so we decided to walk and see the Jewish museum designed by Daniel Libeskind. The museum was amazing of course and after it closed we decided to go get more food and head back towards the hostel. Thursday morning we woke up, checked out and decided to head towards the side of town that the girls were staying at Thursday night. After getting them squared away, we headed to the Tiergarten, which is an emormous park in the middle of Berlin. The park really made me miss home with all the colors and peacefulness. After playing in the leaves and just walking around we decided that it was time to start headed back towards the train station so Brent and I could catch our train to the airport. We decided to stop and eat Thanksgiving dinner together as a group, so we found a little bar/restaurant in the middle of Berlin. I had some of the most delicious soup I have ever had (sorry Mom), some chicken and a few glasses of beer. It seemed so foreign to eat like that on Thanksgiving. You really don't know how much you take being with you family on Thanksgiving for granted until you are not with them. But the 5 of us were all together and feeling homesick, so I am thankful that we could be together on Thanksgiving because I don't think we would have done too well if we were all alone. But after that delicious dinner, Brent and I headed back to the train station and headed to the airport to catch our plane back to Rome.
