We took a train trip Amsterdam to Bremen with one train change. We suffered the first hour in carriage non-working air conditioning then along came this lovely assistant offering to transfer us to the next carriage - aah the bliss of cool air and random acts of kindness. Our hotel is just across the tram tracks from the railway station. Lovely room (with air conditioning this time). There was actually a splash of rain too although it didn’t really cool things down. The heat didn’t prevent us from exploring the many attractions of Bremen. To the west of the town hall stands the most famous representation of the Bremen Town Musicians, the bronze sculpture created in 1951 by the artist Gerhard Marcks. The old town is filled with history and fairytale magic being the place of ... read more

Friday It seems a little strange to be heading north in the UK when our ferry leaves from Dover on Sunday, but we have a the pleasure of attending Nikita and Ed's wedding at Handforth tomorrow. We stopped off at Buxton for a flying visit to two of our daughters before heading to our pub camper stop in Adlington, the Miners Arms, an excellent country pub close to the Middlewood way, so Logan was pleased with his lovely walk in the sunshine along this old railway line. The pub food and beer was very good, and the locals friendly. SaturdayWe woke to the birds singing and another lovely sunny day. After breakfast we drove to the Church to the wedding, Nikita, life long friend of Polly's, looked beautiful and elegant, everyone had a lovely time, we ... read more

As is almost a tradition, I once again returned to Bremen this winter for a good old catch up with my besties in Germany. Having only got back from Israel around 2½ weeks earlier, and almost exactly repeating the trip from 2012, I flew out on a Thursday afternoon from Stansted and returned on the Monday night - However this time as I was working, I did a half day in the morning, before driving and parking at the airport, catching my flight and arriving in Bremen in time to join Elena's preparty before the international day party took place in the city. Having arrived less than half an hour before, at the pre party I was already fondly reminded of how fun the Erasmus experience was, being able to catch up with my good friends, ... read more

A couple of huge days. We started out at 6.30am on Saturday morning in Antibes, France, jumped on the local train through to Monaco Monte-Carlo, then we started a road trip from there up to Lake Como in Italy. Stayed in a beautiful place on the lake, then early start Sunday morning, 7am we were on the road heading back to Vegesack, Germany. We travelled up through the top of Italy, into Switzerland, then climbed right up into the pass between Switzerland and Austria. Over 2000 meters above sea level. The views were absolutely incredible. I was terrified coming down all the hairpin bends, but was well worth the trip. Then we crossed into Austria for a short time, had lunch, then back into Germany. Imagine doing that in NZ - passing through 4 countries in ... read more

Bremen Germany 31 May 2014 After leaving Leeuwarden on a magnificent morning with sun shining and clear skies we drove just over 300kms , across the German border to Bremen. Bremen was once a member of the medieval Hanseatic League and is still one of the most important cities in northern Germany. Together with the city of Bremerhaven on the North Sea it forms Germany's smallest state. Bremen has more than 1200 years of history, and was, for most of its existence, an independent city-state. Bremen is a rather long and narrow city, lined along both sides of the river Weser. Along the north-west/south-east axis it stretches about 10 km, but across only 2 km. The entire city is located on flat plains.' We loved this town. We booked into Camping Wienberg which was 14 kms ... read more
