Andreas lived just outside Berlin in a city called Brandenburg. Although it surrounds bustling Berlin, Brandenburg is a very quiet peaceful place surrounded by nature.
Today Andreas took us out for a bit of sightseeing in Brandenburg and Berlin. We visited a monument for victims of the Nazi holocaust. This was just a monument and we really wanted to visit a concentration camp, so Andreas said that he would take us to a concentration camp on another day as we had to leave early and now it was already a bit late. Andreas then went back to the house as he wanted to prepare dinner and we went into Berlin for some sightseeing and shopping.
Tonight is the New Years eve party and the girls are very excited. Everyone says Berlin is the place to be for the New Year and we have not experienced any of Europe's night life as yet.
We went back to Andreas's place where we had the entire top level of the house to ourselves, complete with its own kitchen. There were two CSers from Spain also staying with Andreas for the New Year but we have not met them yet as they were
out most of the day. Then it was time for dinner and we went downstairs to the most amazing meal ever. We were having a raclette grill dinner. This is a new year tradition in Germany where families get together and sit around the grill and chat and grill their food and feast(similar to a South African braai but because it was so cold it was done inside the house). It was so cool. The food that was normally made on the grill was sausages and meat, but because we did not eat beef Andreas bought chicken and prawns for us. He was too kind! And the dinner too spectacular for words. The girls loved it too!
PS. I bought one these grills to take back home with me😊
