after what was a much needed rest on the train, we arrived in munich at 7 am on sunday morning. we got to our hostel still exausted hopeing to check in and get a few more hours rest before heading out to see munich, but turns out checkin wasnt until 2, so we had alot of tiime to kill. we figured the german national museum would kill at least enough time until lunch so we headed out in the pouring rain to the museum. turns out, museums SUCK. dusty and i paid 10 euro a peice to essentially be bored out of our minds for 3 hours. the, transportaion part was kindof cool, viking ships to spaceshuttles, but other than that, it was stupid shit like, light bulbs, and printing press exibits. after a few hours dust and i had had enough and decided that it would be more interesting to sit and stare out the window of our hostel lobby for the rest of the time so we got the hell out ofthe museum and started back to the hostel. as soon as we got outside, it started hailing like crazy!! apparently this is pretty normal for german springs.... SWEET.
when all said and done, we had experienced the weather patterns of all 4 seasons. anyways, we wasted time for anothe little while, i introduced dusty to the kabab, a staple of my travel diet, and finally we checked in, napped and then headed out to find some big ass beers, and sausages.... as you can see from the pics that's exactly what we found. our waiter loved americans and hooked us up with free jagar shots and some other shots of munich's local liquor, then we moved on to another beer hall, which by the way are AWSOME, its basically exactly what it sounds like. just a huge hall, with like 100 picnic tables and you just sit whereever/ with the hottest poss chicks and just hang with them for the night. its such a different social dynamic than a bar in america... a much friendlier scene for sure. not to mention that EVERYONE gets ROWDY drunk.... dancing on the tables, singing thier countries soccer fight songs... its rediculous. the first official beer hall we went to was called the Augustiner haus or something like that... it was early in the afternoon so wasnt too rowdy. we sat with
these too old ass croatian dudes and couldnt understand a word of waht they were saying, nor could they understand us... amusing non the less. after being pathetically drunk after like 4 steiners, dust and i went back to the hostel adn hung at the hostel bar with our two roomates.... tj and sarah (coincidence huh) and brushed up on my drunken spanglish with a bunch of peeps traveling from spain. The hostel bar ended up being our happy hour spot to meet people to go out with at night. they had cheap beer and drink specials at night so it always was crowded with people.
after a thorough nights sleep dusty and i decided to rent bikes for the day and do a tour of the beer gardens around the city, after getting caught in yet another hail storm, the weather eventually cleared up, and the rest of the day turned out to be GREAT. we kindof did a tour of the city in a roundabout way hitting up different beer gardens, meeting new people, ect. all in all a great daytime activity for munich... def. reccomend. the ride back was a blast seeing as how niether dusty
munich9gettin rowdy at the hostel bar with some aussies.. jagarmiester is the local shot... shiot!
or i had drunk drove a bike since camp.... summer nights... (mo, bart??)... haha. anyways, that night we went to the main touristy beer hall in city center called the hofbrauhos. i was thinking it might be a little cheezy but it turned out to be dusty and i's favorite place... really smokey, but really, really rowdy. the only thing that sucked about it was that all the beer halls close at around midnight, so we got there a little too late, had 2 steiners and got the boot. after wandering the city for 20 min, these two german cheeks, who at the time both looked pretty deece... (turns out from morning after pictures this was not the case.... one was more than deece, the other... not so much) anyways, they came up to us and told us they were the world cup welcoming committee (worldcup is in june) and asked us if we were lost, they ended up taking us to some irish bar, where dusty continued to buy strangers that he will never see again rounds of 7 euro shots... dumbass. it was pretty fun, the girls were cool until the hot one said she was married to
munich4some big building in the city center... has a really long german name i can't spell
god or something along those lines... translate, time to move on. the end of the night was pretty beat, we experienced our first anti american sentiment... dust, our brazilian friend alex and i tried to go to a club and the bouncer wouldnt let us in bc we were amercian.. soo beat.. so the three of us went back to the hostel kindof pissed off, and passed.
The third day was def the biggest buckle of our trip. we didnt know what else to do so we decided to go see the olympic park, and tower. the weather was miserable, and when we got up in the tower (same idea as the space needle) we couldnt see shit. on a clear day you're supposed to be able to see the whole city, all we could see was a big ass cloud. def a buckle, but whatever. that night we met our buddy alex down in the hostel bar, taught him and some austrailan punkrockers how to play drinking games, took lots of 1 euro shots of jagarmiester.... when in munich.... and then headed out to the augustiner beerhall to see what it was like at night. our buddy alex,
munich5beer garden bike tour... the ride home got REAL interesting
by the way, was THE MAN, i think he probobly proposed to 5 or 6 girls that night, and im almost positive, told every girl in germany 'you so beutiful, i want have 20 children with you' or 'you so beutifu, we make love for one whole day'.. so amusing because i think he was dead ass serious about wanting to marry these girls. anyways, we hung out with some austrian girls and guys who were there on a college trip, they taught us austrain drinking songs and got me to say all sorts of inappropriate things in austrian... i tried to get them to do the same in english but got called out bc they understood it... i actually have it caught on video, when i figure out how to post vid you all can see it.. hilarious. so after another unsuccessful try to get into the 'members only bar' we we went to another shitty bar then home.
Our last day in munich, we actually didnt even spend in munich, dusty and i caught an early morning train to füssen, a small town on the german, austrian boarder in the bavarian alps to see the neusvonstein (sp?)
munich6a little cold for the beer gardens, but i cannot imagine how much fun it must be in the summertime
castle. it was about a 2 hour train ride south from munich, and was def worth the trip. .. on the train dusty and i met 3 canadian girls, who we ended up spending the day with, touring the castle, and just hiking around in the alps. All the shitty weather that we got in munich was a huge snowstorm in the alps, and so when we got there, there was 10 inches of fresh snow on the ground. The scenary was really cool, and very dramatic, huge rocky mountains, covered in snow, with castles built pretty much into the mountains. my pictures really dont do it justice, especially because the pics from late afternoon when we found a bridge suspended between to cliffs all got erased somehow... speaking of, dusty see if you can add your pics to my shutterfly acct. roryspictures.shutterfly.com
anyway, the day was really fun, we got into a completley spontaeous full on snowball fight with a group of italians that lasted prob 10 minutes, dustin and i snuck into the castle, all in all a really fun time.
we got back to the hostel in munich prob around 930ish, dusty and i packed up
munich7then neushwenstien (sp?) castle
our shit so we wouldnt miss our early morn train to frankfurt, and we headed back out to the hofbrauhas, to meetup with some other peeps we met at the castle. from there we jsut came back to the hostel bar, then after they closed we latenighted with our hotass hostel bartender, a couple locals, and another guy who worked the hostel... they snuck us all up to the penthouse suite, and we latenight boozed ect. hangin outside on the top floor balcony of the suite. got about 3 and a half hours of sleep, and stumbled to the trainstation to continue on to frankfurt.....
munich9another cool shot of the castle
