Munich - salsa congress & friends & sightseeing

Munich - November, 3rd - 6th

Why Munich?
A bunch of reasons!
1) to visit my friend Silvia 2) to finally see the city itself 3) to dance up a storm at the Munich salsa congress.

Did things work out as planned?
YES! :-)

Weather was cold, but dry and sunny for the most part. Though I am not great at doing sightseeing in a doggedly or thorough way, I did some. I managed to tick off the Chinese Tower / English Garden, Marktplatz / City Hall, Frauenkirche and the Hofbräuhaus / Augustinerbräuhaus.

The highlight was, of course, the Munich salsa congress. Ouchhhh, the dance floor was simply perfect for me. The music was very good; DJ Dave (Germany) and DJ Malo (Switzerland) covering the most of the nights. Not too many shows, a friendly and relaxed crowd, good ventilation. All in all it felt not too big nor too small, rather intimate. I am very happy that I did this congress and will go again.

Very special was the fact that my dad Dieter and stepmum Tatjana came over to Munich for the Saturday party of the congress. They spent first two hours on the train to come from their little town to Munich, then watched the shows and social dancing for the WHOLE night, and were still on the train back home, when I went to bed in Munich. I was very impressed by their stamina, the interest they took and the fun they seemed to have, experiencing what a salsa congress is like. Awesome!
To top it all off: I will be presented with a video of my own social dancing at the congress by X-mas. Dieter was filming me throughout the night. Aside a couple of (very short and badly lit) mini clips, I have not seen my own dancing yet, so I am looking forward to seeing that video
;-) ….and a bit scared too!
