Background: As Europe's largest economy and most populous nation, Germany remains a key member of the continent's economic, political, and defense organizations. European power struggles immersed Germany in two devastating World Wars in the first half of the 20th century and left the country occupied by the victorious Allied powers of the US, UK, France, and the Soviet Union in 1945. With the advent of the Cold War, two German states were formed in 1949: the western Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the eastern German Democratic Republic (GDR). The democratic FRG embedded itself in key Western economic and security organizations, the EC, which became the EU, and NATO, while the Communist GDR was on the front line of the Soviet-led Warsaw Pact. The decline of the USSR and the end of the Cold War allowed for German unification in 1990. Since then, Germany has expended considerable funds to bring Eastern productivity and wages up to Western standards. In January 1999, Germany and 10 other EU countries introduced a common European exchange currency, the euro.

Although it was a rainy day with a gray sky I decided to leave my home and explore a bit the region. I went from Ottobeuren to Wolfertschwenden and further on into direction Kempten. Here are some shots I took on my way :) Otherwise I spent my day with exchanging mails with my sweetheart <3 <3 <3, sleeping, reading, cleaning my apartment and washing clothes. Tomorrow I planned to drive a bit more around, maybe a trip to Austria, to Seefeld and I want to have a closer look to the castle Neuschwanstein. Beside that I have to study Greek, [View Full Entry]

Just wanted to let everyone know that I arrived safe and sound yesterday noon in Ottobeuren I stay now in a little appartment of approxm. 30 square meters, with a tiny kitchen (you can't really cook here, but make some coffee and wash the dishes). It has a little bathroom, two beds, a sofa and a table with two chairs. Also, it has a balcony. It is a typical Bavarian sytled house and situated in a very quiet environment. When I look from my balcony I see our garden, some neighborhoodhouses and - the wood. From here you just go to [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone! Back in Germany for some more traveling times! Our time in Europe was running shorter and shorter with each passing day and there were so many things left for us to do, especially in Germany. We had a busy two weeks ahead of us, starting with the Love Parade in Berlin, then to the south of Germany to visit with my host family from when I was an exchange student, and on to tour around the area a bit before heading north to Lübeck. Techno music may be an extinct beast in the US, but in Berlin it is [View Full Entry]
