Near Ettal and Oberammergau, Bavaria
Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Two towns unified by Hitler in the 1930s, so that a larger community would be able to secure a bid for the Winter Olympics. The highest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze, is located here, on the border with Austria.

Ettal - Site of the famous Ettal Abbey, located in Ettal since 1330. The buildings today come from the 18th century.

Schloss Linderhof - The one castle dreamed up by Mad King Ludwig to be actually finished, located just outside of Ettal.

Oberammergau - Touristy town just north of Ettal, where the Passion Play is held every 10 years. Lots of clocks, wood carvings, and Christmas ornaments.
