Tonight we are writing from in our car beside the lake near Fussen watching another thunder storm - so much for summer weather!
We packed up camp this morning in Munich and decided to head into the city centre - ummm....yip, that was another mission - you see the Germans, besides driving fast and being a kind-of rude race of people, like to have signs spontaneously along stretches of road which seems to stop when you get to an important intersection. So you start following signs to the ‘zentrum’ and then all of a sudden you’re lost in who-knows-where with not a single sign stating ‘zentrum’ (centre). We did manage to find an internet cafe though - and after two attempts and using their computers we hooked our laptop up and updated some more of our blog entries (hence you got a whole lot of emails at once) - and then we even managed to catch up with Brett and Steve (our future brother-in-laws) who were on Skype. After a few hours we decided we better try and find this centre - and hooray - 3 hours after we set out we managed to find the centre! Well I have to
say it was worth the hassle of trying to find it. There were some amazing old churches and buildings around the centre - and then there were the people - I’ve never seen so many people in one place at one time. We also went into the city market place - again, chocka with people, and heaps of fruit stalls, and a few smelly cheese stalls, and eating out places. The whole atmosphere was kind-of neat.
After being in the centre for a while we thought we better head out to Fussen. We managed to find our way without getting lost - yah! The drive was really picturesque with lots of green rolling pastures and the mountains of Austria/South Germany in the background. We quickly managed to find a camping spot near the lake (along with half of the tourists around here), and set up camp before it started raining too hard again. We had to buy a tarpaulin for the tent as the designer of the tent invented these flapping flaps with the second layer of the tent being mesh, which are fine on hot days (to let the breeze in) but in the rain the good old flaps
flap away and the rain comes on in through the mesh!
Well the thunder storm seems to have finished and the rain is dying down so it seems a good place to end so I can quickly run to the bathroom and brush my teeth before the next storm starts!
Hedgehogs at market...for Dad - pity they're breakable otherwise we would have got you one, they're very cute!
PoleThese are everywhere - I guess they symbolise the town and region.
