On the way to Augsburg
Spring has definately arrived Suzy the motor home has been chasing the sun all day and failing miserably. All she has managed is to catch up with rain, rain and more rain. The good news is that she has managed 27.9 mpg. Will we reach that magical figure of 28 mpg the holy grail promised by the manufacturers.
We travelled along roads again full of road works . It seems that the German economy is excellent at the moment and a great deal of money is being spent on the road network. Cars flew past us as they do the German way and lorries were banned off the road this being Sunday. We passed small villages with tiny onion domed churches a sure sign we were heading Austria way.
We eventually reached our stop off point of the night. And it was stil dull and pretty miserable weather similar to what you expect in Britain. Camping Bella Augusta at Augsburg. The town is some distance away and after driving for three days it seemed a silly idea to perjure ourselves and drive in to see the town. Sometimes you just have to park up,make a cup of tea, put the TV on and

On the road again one of the many bridges along the autobahn just chill out. We have another long drive tomorrow through Austria to Slovenia and Lake Bled. Hopefully there wont be so many roadworks and the weather will have improved.
Verdict on Bella Augusta. Well there wasn’t much choice - this or another one. And both were pretty much basic. This is an ACSI site at 16 euros plus local tax of 1 euro 20 for two of us. The other site is more expensive. There are no stellplatz nearby that we could use. The site is sandwiched between the motorway - handy for getting to but that means noise and a small airport. Up to now we have not seen nor heard any planes. Perhaps there are none on a weekend or perhaps it’s a quiet site with only small airplanes using it.
We were met by a man who gave us a temporary key to get on the site and told us to find a plot. The main man as he called him would open the shop and reception up at 4pm. The site is a touch scruffy to be fair. The plots are bigger than those at Vauban camping and some have hard standing. We chose

a mature Magnolia in its full glory a grass pitch hopefully out of the way and separated from our neighbours by low conifer hedges. There are no Brits on site - in fact we have seen very few Brits since we arrived. Is it too early or have they all headed for the sun of Spain. There are a few mature trees and some static caravans. Behind us is a magnificent specimen Magnolia fully blooming and violets are sprinkled through the grass. These violets seem bigger than those we are used to back home and are much prettier.
The shop is well stocked and I got a warm welcome in good Engish when I exchanged my temporary door fob for a proper one. The toilets and showers look excellent and were excellent when I tried them out and there is a wash room and laundry. Not enough dirty laundry yet to warrant a washing session.
On site is an Italian Osteria - Osteria all ‘Italiana which opens from 5 30 on a Saturday evening until 11.00 Weekdays as well as evening opening it also opens lunchtime from 11.30 - 2.30. There is a sun terrace to eat outside although today it wont be used

Suzy is playing hide and seek behind the hedges much. And there is a take away service. I think this must be called the Passatore menu. On offer are antipastas Carpaccio, Parma Ham and Melon (yummy) Mozzarella and veal. Main courses include soup, salads Pasta and gnocchi and Pizza together with Meat dishes, fish dishes and even truffles. Followed by dessert Tiramisu or Panna Cotta. The prices seem reasonable to take out and we think we may go over later and take a look . If its quiet we may eat in but if not then it’s a take away tonight.
In the end we went for a walk to the lake which lies to the side of the campsite. We found large empty car parks which looked as if they might be used by lovers at night but once they had gone home would make excellent free motor home camping spots. And we did indeed finish off the night with takeaway Gnocci and an espresso coffee. Yummy
