LeavingMum, Dad and I, before I left
Hey Hey there world watchers!
I really haven't taken many photos yet, or done... much BUT I did think that I should pull my finger out and write a first blog...
The trip was... well it was long. Like 31 hours from Brisbane to Ulm, three stopovers, many many movies, and a lot of crap airline food. I'll keep this brief and tell you all that easily the best bit of the whole trip was buying a bottle of water in Abu Dabi airport. It took me like 20 minutes, as I lined up behind one man, and other men just kept coming one after the other and putting their stuff in front of my bottle - it was bizarre, well it wasn't really bizarre, it just pissed me off coz I was thirsty, they just acted as if I totally wasn't there...
Getting off the plane in Frankfurt, I collected my bags and headed to what I thought would be a long wait in a queue for customs... what I actually encountered was two guys just kickin' back with their feet up not stopping anyone - it was so sweet and I would fully support Australia taking
on Germany's lax quarantine standards - preferably before next February.
I caught the train to Ulm, and when the time came to jump off I could only just muster enough energy to hoist my bag up one last time, I was just bone tired. I found Warren waiting on the platform for me - good brother!! and he took me home to Christine.
We spent the afternoon walking around Ulm, preparing the route that I walk to class each morning, before going to the Christmas markets and drinking Gluhwein and eating wurst!
Thus far I have had two english lessons, and I really like it - everything about it, I like my instructor, I like th content, I like the structure, I like my classmates - no doubt I will write more about the course in the next few weeks, but I'm really liking it thus far.
No snow yet, apparently there has been annoying rainfalls that keep washing the snow away, but today Warren drove me out to Laichingen and I wandered around the town while he taught his lesson, and there was snow there - only it was cruddy carpark snow that sat in
crusty dirty piles around the place... I was still excited, and you should be too!
Anywho, whilst I was waiting for Warren to collect me, I was sitting on a bench in the town square collecting wierd looks from townspeople as I sat in the cold photographing snow crud, 6 flakes on snow fell on my jacket, and I ate them and they tasted like water...
and that... world watchers, is that. I am tired, I do have more to write, so come back next time to read about Warren and my adventure into the wonderful world of community radio!!!
