EUROPEAN CAMPING TOUR 35 DAYS 12 COUNTRIES
DAY 31 LAUTERBRUNNEN TO HIELDELBERG SAT 6-AUG-05
Raining. Very pretty drive out. 20 minutes waiting at the border to Germany but no boarding. 100m over the boarder we had a quick service stop then on till we reached the town.
Spent 3 hours in the student city of Hieldelberg. 1.5 hours on the net researching my Italian passport opportunities and emailing. 1.5 hours walking and at the pastry shop. This place is such a lively Cosmopolitan city and so beautiful. My kind of beautiful. Classic castle and grand university but also with the old houses and a bridge with character. I felt like I belonged. I felt like a local strolling through.
On our campsite by the river, (with a little piggy in the front garden!) checked into a cabin, played frisbee and almost took the cooks heads off.
Went back into town on the coach. With Matt and Agata, took a walk/hike upto the castle (Matt the mountain goat! Naaahh! :) ) for a sensational jaw dropping views of the town at sunset. Such a cute town. Castle was magnificent. There was a theatre performance going on within
the grounds which we walked into the wings off the performance (couldn't see this time though). It looked so beautiful. The orchestra was playing the gorgeous classical type that always verberates through me. Touching a place in my heart that so hard to reach.
Back down to the town for a cafe. Walked across the old bridge again. This place is so captivating at night. City lights reflected on the river get me everytime and this place was definately no exception. That's my idea of romantic. Agata thought I was weird.
Drunk people around here too. Many guys. Went to bus stop. I walked on for free through the back doors. Just following a local. Bus stopped a little way away from our camp. We had to cross a dam bridge and walk about a kilometre down this totally unlit street. Trusting our instincts about left or right as well! Cars were passing and Matt had a torch (rather crap one but still) so we weren't too bad off. All was well though so we got back into camp just after midnight.
