We had a look round the church at Ste-Mere-Eglise and then headed for the last of the D day beaches, Utah which turned out to be quite bleak and not of great interest. What has surprised us has been the considerable length of the invasion area.

A drive then followed across the Cotentin Peninsular to the Normandy west coast and as we moved southwards we looked at possibly the oldest castle in the area at Pirou and the hill top town of Coutances.

We are staying at another aire at the fortified coastal town of Granville with a position overlooking much of the nearby coast
