Well I made it to Rouen just fine as you all know. The ride up was nice, rolling hills with wheat and corn. All the fields have scarecrows in them and the ones that didn't had crows in them. Lots of little towns and villages, about 5 or so km apart. They are all quaint with very old buildings and windy streets. Every one has a steeple. The farmers live right on the edge of town, they aren't in the middle of fields. A few towns had a big chateau surrounded by a wall and other outbuildings. The country is relaxing, even the cows lounge around. Maybe that is why the cheese is so good.
It is pretty laid back here. We get in at 9 am, drink coffee til about 9:30. Then another coffee break at 11 or so, hour for lunch, one or two more coffee breaks in the afternoon and leave by 5. Did I mention that the French like their coffee? So it is very social, many coffee breaks with everyone, all the offices have 3 or 4 people in them, so it is a more communal environment than the states.
This may turn into a food blog as well. A few of us went out last night to a creperie. Savory crepe for dinner, chorizo, cheese; egg, and tomato sauce. It was good, but of course you have to get one for dessert, crepe sucar (sweet). Bananas and chocolate for me, it was amazing! All for 10 euro, so not bad.
I was up until 11:30 last night, trying to get over the jet lag, so I had like 3 hours of sleep in 36 hours. Needless to say I slept pretty good last night. It is a little easier to stay up that much when you drink coffee all day (it is not exactly weak either, very strong here).
I will try to post pictures next week, I do not have a computer yet. French keyboards are different, so excuse any typos. Only a few letters are different, so I think I can type but I will miss a few letters. You have to hold shift for numbers and the period as well, weird. But I can type things like éèçàù€
au revoir

Glad to see your posting on the travel blog and you were able to get their safely. Too good on crepes, I'm sure you're going to get spoiled with the food this summer.
"So what exactly would you say you do there?" Studying the effects coffee breaks have on university researchers? Can't wait to read that dissertation. Maybe that'll get published too . . . .
Scarecrows in fields, huh? Did you see them while following the yellow brick road? I always knew you lived in some sort of fantasy world. Make sure you do some work!
"You can't put a limit on my cafe lattes, it says so right here. And I don't want to get dirty looks when I come in here. If I want a cafe latte, you give me a cafe latte. And if I have any problems I'm gonna get my lawyer Jackie Chiles down here and your gonna be in really big trouble."
Is that your 1.08 euro bottle of vino on your nightstand?
Little vino before bed time? Nice.
That would be the one, I usually have some with dinner. I bought some belgian beer, Leffe. It's really different, not sure I like it, I'll have to try something else next time.
It is so fun to read about your experiences! We were in Roen and the chateau countryside is beautiful and picturesque-in Germany the farm homes are on the edge of town too and then look out on there fields! Probably a conservation measure. That french food is excellent-give it all a try-I love the wine stews-over noodles. Sure you will learn a few things too! Aunt Nancy
