Our first stop this morning is in the wine village of Chateauneuf du Pape where we stop to see the amazing vistas from the ruined fortress and visit one of the Cote du Rhone wine cellars to sample some of the delicious wine. Then on to Avignon, where we see the Papal palace and famous 'Pont' (bridge) over the Rhone. Finally we arrive in Nice where an orientation drive shows us the Promenade des Anglais and the Place Massena, before we continue to our hotel for the next two nights.
Wow another day on the road. And now we are in wine country. The area is very hilly and the vineyards are not as well kept as in Italy or BC. We were quite disappointed. But we did get to wine test at 9 in the morning. Now that is a tour. hahaha. We also found out that they make nugget candy here. So wine and candy for breakfast. The French know how to live.
For lunch we were in the small town of Avingnon. It had the famous bridge from the song sur la ponte d avingnon. We did sing that a lot and Sue made us stop.
Avignon Popes PalaceWe toured and ate lunch at the small town of Avignon. This is where the pope had one of his palaces.
haha. Lunch was in a quiet little cafe and we had crepes. Everyone is in love with crepes. It is good to be French.
The tour continued through Cannes. Now that town was a great dissappointment to all. It was fairly dirty and reminded me of Sylan Lake. It was very expensive but did not have any character. It was a shame that everyone so raves about it. We spent an hour wondering around. Bailey put her feet in the Mediteranean for the first time. Also, there was a double decker carousel that Bailey and Brian enjoyed.... I have photos.
Then we continued on to Nice for the evening.
Cannes RideThe children had to have a ride of the double decker merry go round.
Cannes We were not impressed with Cannes. We found it dirty and very crowded.
