AvignonPat dancing on the bridge of Avignon
Sunday 12 October, 2008
The plan for today was to look around Avignon.
We had a bit of a lay-in and finally got moving about 1130.
Shorts and T-Shirt weather again.
The traffic compared to yesterday was very light. We initially headed for the park & ride, which we did find this time, but it seemed empty. It also had some travelling people and a circus on the site, so I wasn't going to leave the car there.
We headed back into the centre and found the Oratorie underground car park again.
One thing I keep forgetting to mention, in these underground car parks in France they play classical music, it is very pleasant.
We headed off for the Tourist information and picked up various leaflets, about the city and local area. We were near the Pont D'Avignon, so decided to do the full touristy bit and do the bridge, €3.50 each, with audio guide.
We then headed back into the centre and had a coffee in the Place de Crillon and headed off to look for some museums that I thought might be nice to potter around; I had forgotten this was
France, they were shut.
The sandwich type shops for the tourists were open, so we bought some sandwiches for out tea, later on.
Went back to the Place de Republique and sat in a very central cafe for our lunch - Les Arts - with the sun shining down on us, it was ideal. Pizza and mixed salad, with Steak with chips.
The setting and the food are part of the reasons we are doing this trip.
The Church next to the Palace, hadn't been looked at by us yet, so we ambled back that way and had a look around.
There was a little tourist train doing a tour of the town and for €7 each, we decided to hop on. It lasted 40 minutes and we saw all the things we might want to see the easy way. There was a viewpoint of the Pont D'Avignon, that we spotted, that was worth a second look.
After the train and a look over the Rhone from the viewpoint, and a look at some ducks, this time unafraid of the fish, we headed back to the Hotel, for an early night. The carsaid it was

23 C on the way back.
We have been looking further into renting somewhere around here for a few days, and been surfing the web, but have had no luck so far.
Our plan currently is to head near to Aix-En-Provence and see what the Tourist Information may be able to do for us?
