although the wifi at the hotel works fine with my Ipod I have had a frustrating time trying to connect on the laptop so this will likely have to be sent from elsewhere. I have decided that it might be a Win7 64 bit non-compatible problem as to the router I am trying to connect to - as I found with the connection at the Great Lakes Libree in Taree!
So this will be very brief to accompany the pictures. Late out of the hotel after my big bender at the Yellow Taxi last night - simply needed to catch up on sleep at all costs. Finally down to Bastille and then explored the area thru there following the Rough Guide. Rue Lappe is apparently the hot street at night - but not much shaking in the afternoon. Went to the Church of Ste Marguerite for a brief stop as you see from snaps - supposedly a good cemetery as a lot of guillotine victims went there for burial etc. Then one of the finds (well the Rough tipped me off) the Promenade Plantee - absolutely brilliant idea they had to plant with trees and greenery the old railway overbridge
hotdoggin' at Place Bastille
this guy was v good on 2 wheels (mostly on one) running SE from below Bastille for some 2-3kms. This is one of the most amazing gardens I have ever seen and totally recommend it if you get to Paris. Because it runs at 2nd level building height you see detail you would not otherwise see from the street. The pics barely give you an idea. A brilliant example of urban 'greening'. It even runs thru towards the end a couple of cuttings and old tunnels which are lit up etc. Almost runs all the way to the Bois Vincennes but I did not have time for that.
Had no idea where I was at the end so headed along in search of bright lights and resto food. The Metro was Porte Doree (golden door) at the ring road (peripherique) and along from there found the L'Apprenti (like Don Trump's apprentice??) restaurant which looked and was OK. Le formule set menu for 32E - bavarois of red peppers with eggplant coulis - well at least I got some veges! A glass of Alsace riesling with that. The grilled veal liver with mashed potato and a glass of Brouilly 2007 beaujolais. The dessert was a little wierd - diced fruit sorta
timbale, with a peanut brittle biscuit and some icecream that was almost like halva. Anyway all up it was 44E and reasonable value.
