Morning Campers!
Just thought I would give you a cheeky rundown of my weekend antics!
Well to start with the last week Ive been keeping myself busy going for long walks and working out with good old Davina Mccall (super body workout dvd) its cracking!
Work is... well work, nothing special happening on that front, the teachers surprisingly, are being relatively communicative and telling me in advanced if there are any changes to my timetable which after all this time is abit of a bonus.
So lets get to the point this was the BEST WEEKEND SO FAR!!!
Dan the assistant who lives in St Affrique (a smaller town near to Millau) came Friday afternoon. It was gorgeous outside so we went for a drink in the sun on the mandarous (the main round about - centre of town) after that we decided to go back and sit on the terrace for a while in the sun, Court and I drinking coffee Dan cracking open the wine...
We went out a little later to get a sandwich for dinner before getting ready to out. Ever since I arrived here people recommended I should go to 'Bowling'
which they described as a good place to dance and a bit of a cheesy disco, up until now we had avoided it like the plague as it sounded dire, but we bit the bullet and decided to arrange a night out there.
At 9.30 Me, Court, Dan, Janina, Lilia (another german aupair) and Adrienna (a polish/ french girl who knows Lili) all went to the 'Bowling' it is a little way out of the centre of town but luckily Janina and Adrienna werent drinking so they drove.
First impressions of the bowling were, erm strange? There was a small bowling alley in the corner with only 6 lanes, there were a lot of pool tables and arcade games and to the left was a huge restaurant/ dining area.
We decided to play a game of bowling, of course everyone loved my unique bowling skills which brought some entertainment for the evening. I came 3rd out of 5 so not a bad effort (and that was with the bumpers down!! a rarity for me)
We then had a few drinks and was told at 12 the restaurant area gets transformed into a disco... how exciting.
At 12 we went
through, it was cheesy disco heaven, disco balls, smoke machines and stobe light galore, I dont think I could contain the excitment....
At first it was the usual french disco, bad music and a only a few people dancing (badly) until they started playing the good up to date English music thats when it came to life and we owned the dancefloor.
Not to sound big headed but I definitley think we showed the French how to dance, as every time we were in a big group dancing the rest of the Frenchies formed a circle around us like we were either aliens or amazing...
After ages dancing we all sat down for a drink and a rest when one of us looked at the clock and it was nearly 3 in the morning (the lastest we have stayed out in france by far) so we headed back home. It was a fantastic night - I loved it!
Saturday morning we all got up as we had a busy day of sight seeing planned. We wanted to finally see the Viaduct and then possibly go and visit St Affrique. At around half ten we picked Lili up at the
mandarous and set off for the Viaduct, it took around 30 minutes to drive up to it. We stopped at the viewing point and it was AMAZING I have never seen anything like it. I was massive, apparently so huge that if you put the Eiffel Tower next to it, the tower would be quite a bit smaller. We spent a while taking pictures and taking in the view. Afterwards we set off for the direction of St Affrique the drive took about an hour and when we arrived after Dan showed us around his little flat we all wanted to sit out in the Sun and have a drink. We went to one cafe frist and had a coke and then took a walk through the town ( it was pretty small - made me thankful I was in Millau) and we stopped at a cafe and sat in the glorious sunshine.
They had a set menu for 10€ which considering we hadnt been paid yet, was just what we needed. For starter I had chacuterie ( cold meats) and for main I ordered calamari, which in fact was some dodgy looking fish stew, it was ok but not
what I was expecting. For dessert I had ice cream which was the most delicious home made ice cream ever, I had a scoup of strawberry and one of apple, it was so refreshing and lovely.
After St Affrique we decided to head back as we were all in need of a rest after the night befores partying, so we went back and had a little snooze. That night we went to our 'local' bar le rolls, as there was a band on. When we got there the band had already started but we managed to get a table for the 7 of us. The band were rather good, but it didnt take long for us to stand out from the crowd, mainly thanks to my amazing dance on route from the toilet back to the table, just had to be done! Also we were the only ones to clap as this is obviously not a concept the French have grasped... so after that the band were playing to us and we had a great time, after a while we got up to dance but the French decided to follow suit and spoil it! The final song was i
got a feeling by black eyed peas, one minute we wre dancing the next court was at the front with the singer with her own mic, it was hillarious but brilliant.
We decided to leave when the band finished and go to audience as there would be a DJ there, as we were about to leave we realised Dan was in no fit state to carry on the party so we had to walk his drunk sorry self home haha! We then went back out and went to audience. It was packed but within about 2 minutes we had our own little area to dance in. The music was ok and my rendition of 'crazy in love' attracted the attention of two hippy girls, one of which kept stroking my face and calling me beautiful and that was my cue to leave....
So overall a great and busy weekend lets hope the next four are just as good. Thats right only 4 its flown!!! 5 weeks today ill be on my plane home for good, just as the sun has come out and im having a fab time!!
Anyway hope you enjoyed my weekends antics and it
wasnt too much rambling!! Ill update again prob about next weekend as we already have something planned. Next weekend is Janina's last few days in Millau so we are organising a little going away 'do' for her. We are cooking a meal here, along with sangria and punch and then heading out for more dancing and partying, showing millau how its done!
P.S - song of the week has got to be Will Smith - Miami, yes thats right this little bobby dazzler is a real hit in Millau, I dont know if its making a come back or if this is a first time round for Millau, never know they are rather behind on the times! But its a tttuunnnneee nonetheless!!
Bisous, Jo 😊
