Chartres CathedralMass was being held as we entered. It was in Latin and French. This church had the most amazing stained glass windows. But it was dark so hard to take photos. I had to travel all the way to France
... [more]First we drive to Chartres - famous for its mighty Cathedral with its blue stained glass windows. Built on a lay line, this spot has always been said to have mystical power! Then down to the valley of the quiet river Loire with its many beautiful villages and resplendent castles, home to French royalty over the centuries. We'll stop at Chambord to see the impressive chateau, and then visit fairytale Chenonceau, straddling the river Cher. Then we continue to our hotel in Tours for tonight.
We had an early morning. The country side was great, but very similar to Canada. We arrived early in the morning, which was Sunday in the small town of Chartres and we arrived to see the Cathedral. Sunday mass was going on. It was in Latin and French. The church was spectacular. The stained glass windows were hard to describe. The town was small and had very old buildings and cobblestone streets. We could only stay for 1 hour and we were on our way.
On to Chamborne Castle. It was time for lunch, the food was extraordinaire and Brian had the lamb and so did Bailey. Life is good haha. Brian continues to
say ¨"it is good to be King".
The weather was cold and windy here. But after lunch we were back on the bus to the next castle. The castle of Chenonceau was built over a river. It was lived in by 5 different queens. So the castle is a mixture of thier different tastes. Bailey loved the black room. Some of the finishings were way before their time. The kitchen was in the basement and you could fish from the window. Cool eh.
We were in Tours for the night.
Food at Chambord Here is what I had for lunch at the castle. Cool isn't it. The black stuff was pasta made with squid ink.
Castle Chambord We stopped here and had lunch. We didn't enter this castle as we didn't have time and it was an extra 12 Euros each to enter. It would take about 3 hours to cover the whole castle and we only had 1.
