We finally have broken into the strange little computer in the lobby of the Hotel de Suez. It'sraining a little but the weather has been good up to now. The highlight has been a train and bike ride to Monet's garden in Givenchy. Met some starnge nd interesting people, mainly Americans. One who was living in Iraq and talked hesitantly about his work and conditions there...starange life. Ed has finally worked out how to negotiate the Metro so my feet have had a rest! The Eiffel Tower was a bit daunting and I felt a bit of a woos when my legs went to jelly and I didn'twant to look dow. ... read more

We actually woke up today when our alarm went off. I showered, we packed, and then we checked out. We made our way to the Louvre only to find that it was a French holiday. It, and everything else we wanted to see, was going to be closed the whole day. Awesome. It was only 11 and we didn’t have to leave until 6. What were we going to do for seven hours? We took the metro to some place called Les Halles. We had seen it in one of the view finders and decided it looked pretty nice. It was a cool area, but it would have been better if it wasn’t so cold and drizzling. Carla’s stomach wasn’t feeling too good, so we stopped and rested for a minute. We were sitting at this ... read more

Hello from Paris! I got here yesterday morning around 10a.m., exhausted and needing a nap. I didn't get much sleep on the plane. I was horribly uncomfortable and just about the time I started to get tired the flight was about over. It was pretty crazy to leave the sun behind us and run into it again so quickly in front of us. The stop in Frankfurt was fairly short and the main thing I noticed was the lack of water fountains and everyone smoking inside. It was pretty smelly and stuffy but a nice airport otherwise. My hostel is only a few minutes from the train station Gare du Nord. It's a decent place filled with mostly Canadians. There are a few Americans and 2 Polish girls. I took a nap yesterday afternoon and went ... read more

Our three months in Paris has ended and we are about to start our Asian Adventure. So here is my first entry all about our time in Paris. We arrived at the Gare du Nord on the 6th February. Upon arrival we were meet by a lady with brown envelopes with the name and address of our hosts for the next three months. I was to be staying with Pierre and Dominique Coulhon. They soon became much more than a landlord and lady. They helped me with my french, acted as tour guides and were very hospitable, wanting me to experience french life and culture to the full. I think that three months on I did make the most of my time in Paris. I visited most of the tourist attractions in any guidebook, used the ... read more

A Weekend in Paris (29th April - 1st May 206) It's all about the food! Eiffel Tower What an absolutely stunning city we arrived in on the Eurostar from London Waterloo. As we walked towards the Eiffel Tower we were in awe of the amazing buildings. The queue to climb the tower was almost as long as the tower is tall! So, to keep up our energy levels for the long wait and then the long climb we had our first crepe with banana, chocolate and whipped cream! Some great views of the city including almost a birds eye view of the Arc De Triomphe. Notre Dame Cathedral & Sacre Cour The cathedral and Sacre Cour were just two of many amazing buildings. Such intricate carvings especially the gargoyles on the cathedral. It must have then ... read more

We woke up this morning and went back to the water and the Eiffel Tower for the bike tour. The strangest thing happened. We were just chillin on the metro when all of a sudden we heard music. We looked up and there was a black curtain with little puppets bouncing up and down. There was no skill or anything, but afterward, the guy took done his backdrop and came around asking for money! I just about died laughing. What a joke! We found the bike tour and Carla and I were scared because we hadn’t done any exercise for three months, but we didn’t die. We had a blast! Half the time we couldn’t control the bike and were inches away from running into something, but it was incredible. The weather was nice and we ... read more

We tried to wake up, but it didn’t work. We had our alarm set for 9:30, but didn’t get up and out of bed until 1. We were tired! We had a lot of days in France, so sleep was a priority. We got ready and then were on a search for food. We couldn’t read our map yet, so ended up going the wrong way. Surprise, surprise, I know! We found this nice family restaurant and had a hot meal for 5.50! It was so good. Carla got to practice her French and show me what she was all about. As the trip went on, she remembered more and more French. We asked the guy how to get to Sacred Heart, and he just pointed. You could see it sticking out from where we were ... read more

Not being able to breastfeed meant that Gabor drew the short straw and had to pick up the car from Peugeot in the morning, so we could hit the road early on Friday. Using all his street cred’, together with a good dose of the Force, and some French hiphop blaring on the car stereo, he made his way back to the apartment (despite some unexpected one way systems that don’t appear on the current map) in good enough time that we still had the afternoon to spend out in Paris. So we sped down to Jardin du Luxembourg which was pretty, but very anal. In a GARDEN that was perhaps 1sq Km, a skinny section of grass no more than 100 sq metres was dedicated for people to walk or sit on. I mean, come ... read more

We awoke to a grey day, but still quite mild and no rain, so a trip to Parc de Monceau was still on the cards. Caught the metro using out Paris Visite cards. These are definitely the way to go if you plan on doing a bit of out and about in Paris - designed for the tourist and well worth the money, providing unlimited use of all public transport for 1,3 or 5 days. In an average day you could easily hop on and off a dozen or more metros. We did a lap around and through the park and among other things found what looked like Roman ruins, but it was hard to know if they were authentic or not as there were no signs or explanations, which was a bit frustrating. The park ... read more
