In the 4 days we spent here, some of my favouite things were:
To the Orangerie. Due to Jours de Patrimoine, fee was reduced from about € 12 to €5. Wow! What a great collection of Impressionist works in a wonderful presentation. Seeing Monet's water lillies whetted my appetite for Giverny. Bus to Galeries Lafayette for my favourite view of Paris from the 7th floor terrace, then lunch at the cafeteria on 6th floor. To Giverny by train from St Lazare, then bus. Crowds of people, but still thrilling to walk through the house where Monet lived for 40+ years, then to wander around his gardens and see the actual lily ponds from which he painted all those pictures.Got back to Paris before 4 so took Metro to Pigallle then Monmartrebus to Place du Tertre. Lovely light. Had dinner in bustling restaurant near square. Exciting ride zigzagging down to Pigalle. Did cruise on Canal St Martin which left from Quai arsenal near Bastille. Lovely 2 1/2 hr trip up canal through many locks & several opening bridges. Fun to see Cafe des Deux Magots where Hemingway, Sartre, Moreau, and others hung out. Also saw Cafe del Flore and popped into church St Germain des Pres nearby.
