Car, House & MailboxCaroline insisted on capturing all three objects in the picture - Virginie and me are simply props I guess!
So lately Caroline, Virginie and Virginie's parents have been hard at work doing yard work and construction with Caroline's new house. The newest improvement was the addition of the mailbox! Yay we can finally get mail. Caroline said she would go to the post office and take care of the registration and write down the address for me to send to family and friends. Mail from US to France and back takes approximately 5-10 business days depending.
Here are a few pictures of our amazing mailbox. Caroline really wanted to include the car, house and mailbox together in a picture. I took several photos for them and then she took a couple with me and Virginie in them - modeling the box and all. The "bis" doesn't mean street - my original guess - it means second number 5 house. So there already exists a house on this street that has the address "5" so the "bis" on Caroline's house clarifies which 5 she is (the second one). My explanation is kinda confusing but the idea is pretty simple. It has to do with the plots of land and the subdivision I think.
The other photos are
from last Friday the 20th when they took me out to dinner at a creperie to celebrate my birthday. Super yummy! We had a good time even though Caroline brought her phone to dinner and took several calls. She was stressed for her early morning game the following day. She kept adding and re-adding the points she thought all the teams had earned and then stressing some more. She was concerned that her team had to beat the team they were playing Saturday morning in order to have a chance to go to the semi-finals the following weekend. Virgine just rolls her eyes when Caroline starts stressing. Poor Virginie had just recently been to the doctors for stomach cramps that wouldn't go away. I think it was probably stress ulcers - she says that she's the type of person to hold all her stress inside (hers as well as Caroline's) which has probably caused some sores to start forming. Anyway, she went to the doctors and got some medication and is now feeling a lot better.
Anyway - back to the dinner - those side notes are just so you know the context of the situation and how
everyone is feeling/acting. Since you can't physically be here with me - I have to give you some background information so you can clearly imagine the set-up.
So here we all are - the three of us - sitting at the cute little creperie, Caro stressing, Virginie rolling her eyes and trying to soothe Caroline, and me enjoying myself reading the menu and looking around. The restaurant was cute and little - made up of a two rooms - the main entrance with a short hall that passed by the tiny kitchen and led to the back room where we ate at.
The menu looked a lot like the one from Second Street - at least as far as number of pages and style. However, the writing was in French - of course! Virginie and Caro helped me sift through the descriptions to find one I liked. I ended up ordering one that came with egg, veggies and cheese. Interestingly - the crepes in France, or at least at this creperie (I will have to try some other places to see if this is true) were served separately from the ingredient that came with them. Everything
was served on the same plate, but the crepe itself was underneath and topped by the other ingredients (see picture). So rather then putting the egg, cheese and veggies inside the crepe like we are more familiar with, they were served on top, and all carefully separate. Virginie got a sausage potato and cheese one and Caroline got a cheese, veggie and meat one. After we all got dessert crepes - which were, if possible, even tastier than the entree ones! I thought I was ordering a chocolate peach one, but it was actually a pear one (Virginie's translation). It was incredible though - yummy warm crepe topped with ice cream, pear, chocolate, nuts and cool whip - yum! Caroline got a carmelized-apple one and Virginie got one with praline nuts. I definitely tied a bite of theirs, they didn't want to try mine though (they always decline when I offer). Not sure if this is the usual case, just politeness or the custom . . .
The last picture is the sun setting when we were heading home. It was taken Sunday evening the 22nd following our Buffalo Grill dinner number 2 (they love this restaurant -
My Crepe DinnerMy crepe came with sunny-side-up egg, lettuce salad, and ratatouille mixture
every Sunday if they can they try to go). Anyway, I thought it was a gorgeous view and wanted to share with you!

Hey Missy,
You are so cute...your blogs are truely you. Which in itself is amazing but the whole idea that we can communicate across miles and miles is a wonderful thought. The pictures are so different and show what you are up to. Thanks for doing what you do to keep in touch. I love you so much. XOXO
In teresting the little differences in the way things are done, huh? I guess our crepes are modeled more on a sandwich or something. the dessert ones sounded particularly wonderful. Of course crepes are considered pancakes in France somaybe that's why they served the stuff on top of them?
Tell Caroline the mail box is particularly beautiful! I've never seen such a stylish one and they should treasure it.. send me the address ASAP.
Lynn is here. Your mom came over and we went to PJs on second street for lunch. April and I split a pizza and Lynn had a chicken etc. salad. It looked really good. THEN WE WENT TO SWEET JILLS and brought home some cinnamon roles. (I thought of you while we were choosing) Supposedly for breakfast but we've already eaten a bit of ours! I'm going to fix the vegetables and rice I cooked on Sunday for dinner. I think Lynn is a little tired - think she took a little nap while I was in here. I always write comments on your blogs so if I don't - I missed one! I love you.xxxooo Grandma
