For those of you who don't know, my lovely region of Franche-Comte is divided into four departments: Doubs (where Besancon is), Haute-Saone, Jura (where Saint Lupicin is), and the Territory of Belfort. For this weekend adventure, Charline led us into the Territory of Belfort, a department I hadn't visited before. Friday, May 7 I wasn't sure I was going with Charline because I had been sick the past couple of days. I went to the doctor Friday morning and she said I had a "gastro", which I guess just means a gastro-intestinal virus. She sent me to the pharmacy, and after taking the first doses of medicine, I started to feel better. Charline convinced me to come for the weekend since I was starting to feel better. Originally other friends were supposed to come, but plans ... read more

I'm writing this entry in Nice, just a few streets away from the Promenade des Anglais and the mediterranean sea. From this you will probably be able to deduce two things - firstly, that I am quite late as usual in posting my account of my travels but secondly, and much more importantly, that I have finished my trek across Europe. That's right, after 4 months, 105 stages and 2273kms (give or take), I finally made it to Nice on Sunday 11th October. I suppose this means the rest of my blogs will be like films where you already know the ending but I hope it wont diminish your enjoyment in reading my accounts of the highs and lows of the trek. This blog describes my journey through the Jura, as the GR5 makes its way ... read more

Today was a Travel day for me. I listed as being in Belfort in the Franche-Comte region, however most of the day I was on a train in 3 different countries. I started the day bright and early when I woke up at 5:30 am and left Joscha's house for the train station. Saying goodbye was really difficult for me. Joscha and I cried for about 45 minutes each remembering all the good times we had over the past 4 days..... NOT We're MEN! Men don't cry. In all seriousness, I was sad to be leaving Joscha, but I was happy to start the next day on my Journey on my way to France! I took a train at about 6:30 and didn't get off again until 1:45. During that time I slept, ate some snacks ... read more

I have not a single photo from Belfort. Not one. This may be because overall it was not a very positive time. I felt good about our dance work, about the process and the place that the work got to. The technical support in Belfort was really wonderful—we were able to work with lights and sound and everything there in a way that really made the piece finally make sense for me. But the energy of the place and some stresses surrounding the project repressed my photo-taking, I think. (don't worry--it was not nearly that bad--but I do think that stress was a reason I did not take any pics. And the fact that the weather was gloomy much of our time there). Belfortis an industrial town with a long history of mills, mines, and ... read more
