Ja me olimme ankkurissa kahden sellaisen välissä. Varsin outoa olla asumattoman luonnonsuojelusaaren lahdella kymmenien ihmisten välissä, niiden pulikoidessa ympärillä ja tuijottaessa vesibussin kannelta.... read more

Corsica has been a real adventure!!! We've raced across the island in a rented turbocharged ralley car, rode a train into the heart of the island past deep ravines and seven-thousand foot tall mountains, and swam at three beaches and in a river. In the port town of Bastia we quickly realized that Corsican's take pride in the fact that Napoleon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio on the south coast. We arrived near Rue Napoleon and then were informed at the tourist information office that we could choose between Hotel Napoleon or Hotel Bonaparte. (We chose Hotel Napoleon...much less formal sounding.) On our first night in Corsica in the port town of Bastia we dined at one of many many waterfront restaurants offering fixed price menus of three courses consisting of Corsican dishes and French favorites. ... read more
Our last days in Corsica Dave, the most wonderful boy in the world that he is had booked us for our last two nights in Corsica at a 4-star boutique hotel, l’Hotel Palazzu u Domu – tres chic baby!!!!!!! We have worked the main difference between 2-3 and 4-star hotels, it is simply the quality of the the bed and pillows and air conditioning followed by the bathroom. If you just have a decent pillow(s) you can have the most wonderful night’s sleep. We just relaxed on the Sunday (12 June) in Ajaccio with a walk along the boulevard and swim at the beach before taking dinner at a local Corsican restaurant. Dave had wild boar stew and I had yummy pasta with green beans. On Monday (13 June) we completed a four-hour hike up ... read more
Bastia, Corsica 1 – 6 June 2011 Arrived in Bastia via ferry from Livorno Italy – very relaxing 4½ hour trip on the boat. Loads of motor bike riders on their mighty big BMW bikes; MTB cyclists, road cyclists plus folks heading for their campervan holiday in Corsica. We had 4 nights at Hotel l’Alvi, Bastia situated overlooking the beach. We wanted to relax after our Cinque Terre walking and be rested ahead of starting our 7day self-guided trekking adventure across Corsica. It was so lovely to chill out with some major sleep ins and afternoon snoozes. We even agreed we wouldn’t bother with a 7hr+ trail situated near where we were staying. Agreed it was time to really relax. Our first night in Bastia was interesting. Robbo experienced her first FDS situation = I had ... read more
CORSICA 17 t/m 27 mei 2006 WOENSDAG 17 mei 2006.
Last minute sun ... essential life choice
Published: January 8th 2011Europe » France » Corsica » BonifacioSunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Last chance to get some sun, sea and relaxation before the cold of winter sets in so when a friend asked me to join here and a few friends in Corsica, who was I to say no? Corsica has never been high on the list of places to go in my travels, but having been, it's a beautiful part of the world. A mountainous island in the middle of the meditteranean it combines blue/green water, white beaches, old villages and amazing mountains. Flying in a day after everyone else to Ajaccio I hired a car to make my own way across the island which gave me a great excuse for a detour to Filitosa via the scenic mountainous roads. Filitosa is a prehistoric site near Propriana scattered with menhirs (stones carved with human aspects!). I ... read more
GR 20 - "Grande Randonnee" on Corsica from Calenzana to Conca
Published: September 30th 2010Europe » France » CorsicaGR 20 is one of the most famous long distance walks in Europe stretching 180 km almost diagonally through the island of Corsica from the village of Calenzana in the north to Conca in the south-east. Guided by the red-and white waymarks the walk takes you on a real roller coaster adventure up and down through some of the finest mountain sceneries in Europe. Once you hit the trail you will soon understand why this tiny beautiful island of Corsica is sometimes referred to as the "a mountain in the sea" or the "granite island". Despite being only the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea after Sicily, Sardinia and Cyprus, Corsica inhabits the highest mountians of any of the islands in the area. It actually has more than twenty mountains above 2000 metres. The GR ... read more
We arrived in Corsica in the morning and was greeted by the gorgeous sunshine :) We spent some time just relaxing a bit in the sunshine and then started to hitch towards Ponte Leccia where Jean's mate Ugh has a mate, Rolland who lives there. Jean said the worst time he had hitchhiking was waiting for 3 hours just outside Ploermel to get a ride...well today was going to beat that! We walked to the outskirts of Bastia and started to try hitch a ride to Ponte Leccia which is about 40km away. We waited to about 2 hrs before walking a bit and had spoken to some one who passed who said hitch hiking was possible in Corsica. At this new spot we waited about another hour or 2 before getting a ride from a ... read more
