Another day another dollar and Goose is not at the wheel So after the night of France Passion, well not in the biblical sense if you read my last blog, we rise early and go to start the motorhome and guess what, the bleeding immobiliser would not let us start it - me thinking OMG and Mike thinking well maybe day 2 could be France Passion in the literal sense, ha ha. Anyway, we tried the other keys and wowee it started so thank goodness for this. The navigator Mike, let’s start calling him Goose as Goose was Maverick’s navigator in Top Gun, started well but let’s be honest he had Sat Nav to help him. So we trundled along the nice french roads through nice villages in the Champagne region and I was loving it ... read more

From Tours we drive north to the city of Chartres. On the way we stop off for lunch at Vendome which is a very pleasant town on the confluence of 3 rivers and home to a huge abbey. Though a small town today Vendome was for centuries a major centre in this area. In Chartres it is all about the cathedral. This is one of the most impressive gothic buildings in the world and draws huge numbers of visitors both to see the famous towers which are different (!) but also the interior particularly the blue stained glass windows and the labyrinth on the floor of the nave. We see the city during the day but come again at night as the town runs an impressive light show every night starting at dusk. When we're here ... read more

Europe » France » Centre » Tours July 23rd 2022

We are in Tours in the Loire valley, another area I've never visited. Since we skipped the Bordeaux wine touring because of the wild fires we thought the Loire would be a good alternative. After a little bit of research we settled on staying in Tours rather than elsewhere as there is more accommodation here and some other interesting things to do in the town, but I'm not exactly sure what we'll do for wine tasting options are until I speak to someone at the tourist office. On the Friday we check out the town, stock up with maps from the tourist office and find a bike hire. The cathedral here is impressive as is the old town. At the Gouin hotel (now a free museum) there is an interesting free art exhibition by the artist ... read more

Europe » France » Centre » Chinon June 11th 2022

An absolutely excellent idea to visit Chinon, too delightful a town to be missed and really surprised that we have managed to miss it out up to now, given the many weeks, months even we have spent in France over the years. The sky was cornflower blue when we woke and stayed that way all day. Summer has arrived with a vengeance. No hesitation risking suntop on a day like this. We took the road north of the Loire to Saumur, the way we came back yesterday so we got a good view across the river to the castle and then a little further along crossed the Loire and came to the River Vienne which Chinon sits on. The drive was about an hour but so pleasant and such lovely weather. We had to cross the ... read more

Computer zei : Aankomst 18:45u, 26°, hoogte 141m, afstand 601.5km, verbruik 11.9L/100km, gemiddeld 67km/u, rijtijd 8:50u. Zondag 29/05/2022, rit tot thuis, met weeral stevige 'bouchons' Computer zei : Aankomst 19:40u, 11°, hoogte 68m, afstand 597.2km, verbruik 10.9L/100km, gemiddeld 62km/u, rijtijd 9:31u. ... read more

The plan today had been to head to Le Mans but with the awful wet weather we felt we had no desire to walk in the rain . Le Mans could wait . We needed to fill the fridge and do a shop. Last night through the mist and rain we had spotted a very large Le Clerc supermarket and petrol station so that was the first plan of the day. We headed for Attin. The petrol station was a no go for us as it was unmanned and we still were unsure if our UK cards would be successful . I do love large french supermarket . The choice of products is enormous . Wine - reasonable enough to drink at 2 euros a bottle. The trolley was filled with roasted chicken, roast potatoes , ... read more

Europe » France » Centre » La Chatre March 14th 2022

This entry will be brief... mainly because it is now the 21st April and I have half forgotten what we did on the 14th March but need to add my blog here so I can remember when I refer back to this when I am old ?? We had forgotten just how much we enjoy driving through France. Not on the motorways where I find it hard to stay awake and where there is little chance of pointing my camera at an interesting building or a colourful tree, but on the N roads. The roads which are easily wide enough for the motorhome to pass along without mishap but which pass through pretty villages where the building styles are forever changing as we cross from one region to another. Where we can pull up outside a ... read more

Glorious weather for a motorhome drive. Left one canalside spot and drove to another 300 miles further south. We used the autoroute for 2/3rd of the way, mainly because we were heading via Paris and autoroute, even with the tolls, is really the only way to do that. Even so a pleasure to be on a French autoroute again as there is so much more road per person / vehicle here in France and therefore a lot more open road. Also they really do handle road works so much better. No 40 mph limits for 5 miles before a 2 mile stretch of roadworks. In France there is a warning sign a mile away then a lane closure maybe and speed down to 60 and you are out the other side. Hghways England really should investigate best ... read more

Warum d... read more

Mich ärgert ... read more
