We started our day by visiting Leonard De Vinci’s house. The house located in Amboise, is where he passed away. The house has been turned into a museum; IBM funds the house and also created models of all of his inventions from his drawings.
From Amboise we headed toward Chateau De Chenonceau. Lori read all about this chateau and recalls it from her French classes at UCF. It was a short drive, we were there in 15-20 minutes. Lori was surprised it was such a short drive. I told her Francis I didn’t want to be too far from Amboise because this is where his mistress lived. It’s always good to be King.
We thought we’d eat lunch but it was early and we decided to head on over to France’s hunting lodge Chateau de Chambord. Now this is a man’s room. It has this cool double helix stair case up the middle which was designed by Leonard De Vinci. Yea you know, Leonardo, the same guy from the movie “The De Vinci Code”.
Lori and I arrived it took us a little long to get here and we were hunger. We grabbed our green Publix bag which we’ve been using
to carry our food around in and headed toward the front lawn. We spotted a nice shaded spot I sat down and started making sandwiches. We had olives, wine, cheese and my famous ham sandwich. Everything tasted so good, a cool breeze, shade trees, and people walking around the chateau. I had finished my sandwich and Lori and I decided to split one more sandwich. As I was making the sandwich, the knife slipped. Yep, you guessed it I cut my finger. As I looked at Lori I said this is why Kirsten doesn’t allow me to have sharp objects. Blood squirts everywhere; Lori leaps from the ground and bolts toward the ticket stand. I grab a napkin and put pressure on my finger. As she disappears into the distance and thinking she has the car keys. I keep applying pressure to my finger, continue eating my sandwich and take another swig from the wine bottle. About the time I’m half way through the sandwich Lori comes running up. In her panting voice she says I got bandages and tape. I answer with my mouth full of sandwich, where have you been, with crumbs flying out of my mouth. I
found the first aid station and in her hands she has surgical bandages, tape and Band-Aids. I’m looking around thinking someone had lost their arm or leg. Is this for me? Yea, you think I’m going home with you injured and Kirsten asking me what happed. No way old man!
Well Lori bandaged my finger and I’m proud to say she did a great job.
We packed up our food bag dropped it back into the car and took off to explore the chateau. We walked the entire chateau, I needed lots of breaks but it was well worth it. Lori and I agreed Chambord is the beast chateau in France.
From Chambord we headed toward Orleans. We started looking for a place for the night. As we were getting close to Orleans we found this cool hotel. It’s called ETap, it is a hotel that is like a youth hostel. Each room has one double bed and one single bed. It has WIFI (which in France is called WEFE) and provided breakfast for $60 Euros.
Neat hotel.
