Agnes didn’t have to teach on Tuesday, for some reason, she only teaches four days a week, so she got us out the door on time. We headed to Vannes, and along the way, we saw signs for Carnac...and realized that we had time to stop...Who knew that the Arthurian legends involve this part of France as well. Thousands of stones in rows (stone alignments), dolmens (stone tombs) and tumuli (burial mounds)...apparently chipped and carved and placed in rows in one of the largest such collections in the world...date from 3300 BCE and possibly from 4500 BCE (according to Wikipedia)...One of the more charming modern myths is a version that Merlin turned a Roman legion into stone. Tag 288 – Blindenbilderbuch & Crêperie Am nächsten Tag fuhren wir wieder nach Rennes. Marie-Claire hatte ein Treffen mit ihrer Gruppe „Histoires Ordinaires“, zu dem ich mitkam. Netterweise stellten sich erst mal alle vor. Alle vier Frauen waren Künstler/Pädagogen, die in einem gemeinsamen Projekt ein Bilderbuch für blinde/schlecht-sehende Eltern erstellten. Die Schrift war angepasst, es gab eine Lesehilfeschablone, ein Begleitheft mit den Texten in Blindenschrift sowie eine CD, auf der sich neben die Geschichte ergänzenden klassischen Musikstücken und dem in zwei Geschwindigkeiten vorgelesenen Text auch noch Beschreibungen der Bilder und zusätzliche Informationen befanden. Marie-Claire würde den Text lesen. Heute überarbeiteten sie aber erst mal die Einführungstexte, die sich an die Leser mit unterschiedlichen Bedürfnissen richteten und die Handhabung des Buches erklärten. Anst... read more

Tag 283 – Visite guidée, Parc du Thabor & Proveganfest Am nächsten Tag machten wir uns gegen zehn auf den Weg nach Rennes. Im Parkhaus packten wir den Gepäckwagen und eine Menge Taschen aus und machten uns dann auf der Suche - wo mussten wir bloß hin? Diese Etage war anscheinend nicht richtig, doch schließlich fanden wir den Fahrstuhl und fuhren nach oben auf 0. Doch hier war der Bahnhof nicht. An der Information erfuhren wir, dass wir wieder auf -1 mussten. Da kamen wir ja nun gerade her. Doch diesmal fanden wir den Zugang zum Bahnhof. Wir drehten eine Runde, und dann rief Marie-Claire ihre Kontaktperson an. Und wir mussten wieder auf 0. After an overnight trip across the English Channel to France, we drove to the farmhouse of our French relatives, Nat and Cathy, and their children Alex, Suzanne and Emilie. The 17th century farmhouse came with three hens, a rooster, two cats and various other animals, as well as a tractor, copse of small trees, orchard, trampoline and redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes. It is near La Mesiere, a small village. My Uncle Stu, Auntie Isa and their children Julian and Lucas were visiting from Australia too, so we spent the weekend with lots of family. The next day we went to Bayeux to see the Bayeux tapestry and the Bayeux Cathedral. The Cathedral had a crypt underneath. Sunday 24 May 2015 Brittany has been on our bucket list even before we started the planning for this trip. This part of France has always seemed to be different. Today we are about to experience the culture ourselves. Seafood, crepes and cider are a strong drawcard and places such as St Malo, Dinan and Mont St Michel are on every tourist's visiting list. Before leaving Granville we followed the Centre Ville signs to the old part of the city. Being a Sunday we thought everything would be closed. How wrong were we. Parking was free so after parking up we wandered the streets to find out what was drawing the crowd. Cafes were doing a roaring trade and one street had an open air market.
