Mt. St. Michel
Arriving on the bus and almost there! Adventuring Out
Bonjour! It has been a while since I have written, but as you know I have so much going on. Especially from looking at the blog I have posted. On Saturday January 26, 2008 the exchange students at Rennes 2 went to Munt Saint Michel. It is monestary and is surrounded by a bay. It is just absolutely gorgeous. Mt. St. Micheal is just a place that you need to see. It has so many steps there that are steep and you have to climb. When you enter you go throught a village that is very cute. It has all these shops, creperies, and restaurants. The walk through the town is quite steep. Also, the fun thing is that there are several cut throughs that are so narrow. My friends and I ended up going the wrong way and had to go through one of them. We thought we were not going to fit, but we did. It was quite different. There are so many things in the monastary from chapels, gardens, and breath taking views. Oh! and did I mention steps. My favorite part about Mont Saint Michel is when you get to the very
top of the monastary and go outside you can just see the bay for miles. Especially when it is sunny it is just absolutely breath taking. It is really enjoyable to take a pick nick lunch and eat with your friends, which I did. My friends from China asked me to try a piece of dried seaweed and it looked like a fruit roll-up, but it just tasted so gross! Let me remind you, I don't like seaweed or sushi. Let me repeat the views are just so beautiful. Inside Mont Saint Michel there is a part that is quite intersting. Down in the chamber they used to keep prisoners there. There is a giant hamster wheel, but was used for the prisoners. The wheel was attached to a pulley, and it would pull things up this huge wall. Just look at the pictures and you will understand. Also, not to mention Mt. St. Micel has an interesting shape. Mt. St. Michel is goregous in any time of the day, night time, or rain or shine, and also winter or summer. It so beautiful and breath taking.
I HOPE YOU CAN VISIT ONE DAY! We just walked around and ending
up enjoying the sunshine and looking at the many gifts Mont Saint Michel had to offer us.
Cafés and Such
You know here in France it is a popular thing to go out with your friends to a Café and have a coffee. By the way there coffees here are very small and are strong. Pretty much the same as an exspresso in the US. But as you all know for me I don't drink coffee so instead I order Hot Chocolate or Chocolate Chaud! I went to a café with Maddy my french friend Lucie who brought a long one of her french friends. It was a silent conversation. Its still very new getting use to speaking a different language. What I mean by quite is that we talked, but not as much I would have liked too. On the same day I went to the Cinema and we saw Sweeny Todd. You think it would be in french, but since it was a musical it was in English with french subtitles. For other movies in french on Tuesday evening my German friends, Maddy, and I went and saw a Parisian movie called Diden. It was about
a young women who was getting her life on track. It was really exciting.
Did you know? When you order popcorn at the cinema you can order sweet or salty popcorn. Trés different!
Ecole
So you are probably wondering about classes, right? Well, actually I start class officially next Friday! 😊 Though, I have to take an American Civilisation class, but I actually thought I had to take an American Literature class. Tuesday, I went to an American Literature class on E.E. Cummings. It was all in English and pretty interesting. Today or Wendesday I also went to an American Literature class on Emily Dickeson. The professor was quite boring, but the inofmation that I learned was very exciting. Let's just say I already missed the American Civilisation class, so I will have to go next Tuesday. I hope my CIREFE courses won't interfer with this class because I really need it! That is about it for class.
Oh Yeah! Did I mention the french students take a
notes, notes, and more notes! Diner
Lately, I am becoming Chef Lindsey! I will be a pro when I come back to the United States. My
friend Maddy and I are always cooking in the kitchen and meeting new people. We just make the usually. Spaghetti, tacos, and shrimp scampi. While, the french are cooking fish, eggs omlets, crepes, and fish. This guy from the Cote d'Ivoire cooked the entire fish.
Yes! With the head, tail, fins, and scales. I asked him do you eat the eyes and mouth too? He resonded, "No, just the meat around it!" Quite interesting I thought because we just don't eat fish like that in the US. Oh Well, I guess I have to get use to it. I am running out of creative ideas for cooking. So, if you know of any recipes with:
- healthy
- cheap
- scrumpcious!
Please feel free to do so!
So as you can see I am having a really good time! I am so excited that I am here and able to live such a great oppurtunity. Thanks for everyone that helped me get here! I hope everyone is getting a piece of the wonderful adventures that I am creating. I will be writing soon with new ones so stay put!
