A merry christmas to all of you, hopes it has been as enjoyable as ours. We started off the morning by giving out our presents that we were too tired to do the night before (although Tesni was a bit shortchanged as we havnt got her anything yet as we didnt know what she needed, we are going shopping when we get back to Paris). Tesni had been very sneaky, she had made notes of what we liked when she took us shopping in St Michel and snuck back and got them. We opened Grans cards too; thank you Gran they were lovely to have something from you on the day, and thank you very much for the presents in them. Then we headed downstairs for breakfast, which is included with our room rates and is ... read more

Strasbourg has lived up to all our expectations. It calls itself the capital of christmas, and they really go all out for it here. All the streets are decorated differently and in themed, and the markets have been wonderful. Our hotel seemed to be ages away from everything, but when it came to actually walking into town in the morning turns out everything is very compact; it only took us about 15 minutes to walk into town (and that was with mum stopping to ooh and ahh every 2 minutes). There are 3 main christmas markets, one we ended up getting a whole lot of christmas lights at, they had rows of them, another one had the most awesome food and was set right outside the cathedral (which is immense), and the other one is mostly ... read more

Bonjour everyone! I am writing you from one of my new favorite cities in the world, Strasbourg, France. (Really expensive, but hey, it's France) This place is called the Christmas Capitol of the world and it surely lives up to its name! I've never seen so many beautiful Christmas lights and festive markets and shops with cakes and candies set up so elegantly. The boutiques here remind me of the scene in a Christmas story where he's looking in the window of the big department store with the magical Christmas display. Every shop is like that and there's always a crowd looking in the window and dreaming of eating all the cakes and sweets. The Christmas market here is the largest in Europe and it is ten times better than the market in Nantes. The architecture, ... read more

It is always nice to visit a city after 11 years and to see not much has changed. Strassbourgh has had so many visitors since I was there with the exchange program in 1997 and has had so many more visitors long before. The Muenster Cathedral is perhaps the most famous landmark. It was constructed in the 13th century! We were travelling with cousins from Turkey and I have to say that I was releived that they didn't want to stop at another Christmas market. The Christmas market is found in Germany and the surrounding borders. Every year the same people come back and set up shops in quaint little booths. What is funny is that all of the products and food is exactly the same whever you travel to. I was quite pleased that the ... read more

Hello everyone! What a great few days it’s been. For Thanksgiving my friend Franzi and I decided to have our own Thanksgiving dinner. We cooked for the other English, German, and Spanish assistants and it was a great success; everyone enjoyed our food. We had chicken (in replace of turkey), stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and apple pie. It was nice to have dinner with friends since I wasn't able to go home for Thanksgiving. After dinner, I called home on Skype and said hello to everyone who was having dinner at my house. My mom even brought the lap-top into the dining room and had the web-cam on while everyone was eating dessert. It was nice to see everyone even though I couldn't have a piece of that delicious looking pumpkin pie! ... read more

Hello! What a weekend! Franzi, Lucy, Kate, and I went to Dijon and Beaune for the weekend. I had my 10km race in Beaune on Satuday and it was a lot of fun. I headed to Beaune on Friday morning to pick up my dossier for the race and then met Lucy, Kate, and Franzi later that night in Dijon where we were staying for the weekend. Kate has a friend studying in Dijon so she met us at the train station and took us to a little restaurant for dinner before heading to our hostel. The hostel we stayed at was about 20 minutes by bus from the train station but was really nice. Saturday morning we woke up around 7:30AM and had breakfast at the hostel before heading out to catch a train to ... read more

Hallo! Yesterday, Amy, Ross, Andromeda, Gemma and I took the bus from Mulhouse to Freiburg in Germany. The bus picked us up around 8:20 and we arrived in Freiburg just after 9:30 I think. It was 7.50euros one way so I think I will be going to Freiburg more often. It was a great day! We walked around through the centre ville and around Munsterplatz where the Munster Cathedrale is located. There was a marché(outside market) with venders selling fruits, vegetables, cheese, sausage and so on. We also did some shopping throughout most of the morning and I bought another pair of gloves, so I don't need to depend on one pair once it gets colder! We then decided to hike up this trail to the top of this hill that overlooked the city and out ... read more

Bonjour à tous!!! This has been a wonderful weekend! I had class on Thursday and Friday this week. 4 hours of class total, so not too bad! lol. Thursday night I returned to the running club and it was so nice to see everyone again. Jean-Michel, Nicolas, and Yves(I'm finally learning names!) were all there and a new girl who started this week. They were interested in hearing about my break and travels. Jean-Michel is so great because he is always asking me questions and getting me to use my French, even when we are running. Now that it's darker earlier we go to a new park that is lit at night, which is better since we don't meet to run until 6:30pm. I'm not sure how many miles we did but we ran for a ... read more

Hello! I was up at 6:30am (French time) so 12:30am (US time) to read about the election results! Today was our last day of vacation and tomorrow it's back to school. I only have 2 hours tomorrow and then 1 hour on Friday, so it won't be a tough week. Then it's the weekend again! As much as I've enjoyed les vacances, I think it will be good to go back to school and get into a routine again. Last Thursday we got back from our trip and we also got our first month's pay! That was a nice surprise. Friday I did some grocery shopping and renewed my Tram/Bus pass for the month of November. Saturday I got back into running again(after of week of not running my usual 4 miles every day) so I ... read more
