Today was awesome!!!!!! We started out at a foie gras factory. Though I did not get to see the geese and what not like i was hoping we did get to see all of the manufactoring and spicing, and molding of the livers, as well as a video that explained all this and the cooking method. Now foie gras is very controversial, because basically geese are force fed to fatten up their livers, and some places that try to be eco-friendly like New York refuse to serve it. The protests against foie gras and the strict regulations that manufactures have to follow are found all over the world, but goose and duck liver, and a glass or 2 of wine all before 10 am...Who can complain. That is a life style i could get used to! ... read more

PROMPT: What issues surround foie gras? Are these American only issues? Have you found the beer in Europe to be different that what we normally drink in America? Some of the issues that surround foie gras are the humane treatment of the animals being used for the product. In order to get the goose or duck’s liver large enough for a good pate the handlers must force feed them ensuring an enlarged liver. Many people would claim that this is animal abuse and is wrong. Also, the living conditions of the animals must be taken into consideration. If the animals are being both force fed and then living in bad conditions it makes the whole process seem very cruel. I think this is only an issue in America because in Europe foie gras is seen as ... read more

Today was our final full day in Europe. We started the day off right by eating goose liver and drinking wine. This was not nearly as bad as it sounds as the liver tasted much like dark meat poultry with a texture comparable to playdoh. Foie Gras is very hard to get in America, and is even banned in New York due to animal cruelty issues. After trying the Foie Gras, we were given the choice to either go to a brewery or shop in Strasbourg. I didn’t really care either way, however, I chose to got to Strasbourg with Janet, Ashley and Jamie, as they were the three people on this trip I had grown the closest to, and I would rather spend my last day with them. In the town, we finished up our ... read more

Tuesday, June 2 is the day I tried foie gras and to be real honest it was not my cup of tea. I think it got to me mentaly knowing that it is duck and goose liver and so automatically I just did not want to eat it. I'd have to so say out of all the tours we got this was my least favorite. I thought the guy compared to Hauns the 4 and Christoff was absolutely a drag but Mrs.Runnels did say he told her that foie gras was his passion even though it did not come across that way. I was happy to leave there and move on the next adventure. We had a choice after eating lunch and that was to either go to a brewery or to stay in Strasbourg to ... read more

We started off our day by going to the Haut Koenigsbourg Castle. It was my first time to ever tour a castle and there were some very interesting things we learned, such as they don’t sleep laying down because it resembles being dead. Although we had a tour guide that was explaining every little detail of history to us, which some of it was interesting, I think the experience would have been better if we had toured it on our own. Our next stop was the Maison Zimmer winery. I was very excited about touring the winery because I love wine and have always wanted to tour a winery and do taste testing. The lady informed us that they only made white wine and one red wine. They had 6 different types of grapes for the ... read more

I would say that Switzerland service and France service is about the same. In both countries the service is very slow unlike the service we receive back in the states. Meals seem to be a very important part of the day in Europe, a time to relaxed and socialize. When we where at the Traube Tonbach I found the service to be very nice. When they serviced the food they announced what was being served and in between meals they picked up plates and utensils that we were not going to use for the next course. I have also never received such good service when it comes to refilling drinks. Every time I looked down at my glass it was always full which was very nice. When it comes to service if my glass is constantly ... read more

Monday, June 1 was the most exciting day out my entire trip to Europe! It started off by waking up at 5:30am so I could catch the train to Paris. I was so pumped for the day to come that I didn't care what time I had to wake up. The two hour long train was not bad because I just looked at all the beautiful seneary and thinking in my head what Paris would be like. When we arrived we were'nt really sure where we needed to go and what we needed to do. Someon suggested that we get an all day pass for the metro and we did so. After that we got on one of the metros which was an experience all it's own because I've never been on a subway type deal ... read more

This was our free day, and since I am not going to Paris or anywhere else, I decided to stay around. I slept in and it was very nice! I rented a bike and Nate, Brent, Josh, Sinai, Stephanie and I decided to go on a bike ride. We went riding through the trails and our first stop was a little flowing pond. There were two dogs who were jumping in to get the ball that was being thrown at them. I've never seen a dog jump in water! Afterwards, we wanted to go to what looked like a beach. When we finally made it, it was a nude beach!! We walked in and I was wondering what I saw some nudity and naked people everywhere! They all were about 55 and older it seemed! We ... read more

We went to the Alsatian Wine Region today!!! But our 1st stop was the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle where Wilhelm the second ruled. The castle was packed with tourists!!! It was really interesting getting an inside view of what life must have been like in the 12th century. The furniture was amazing to me for the time period it was built in. A strange thing that I saw in the tavern, a cat walked down a beam from the ceiling and then proceed to jump on a groups table (where they were eating lunch!) and sat there for a minute then jumped down. It kinda grossed me out to see that :( After the castle we stopped in a little village on the "Route des vins" for us to have lunch. Cat and I found a little sandwhich ... read more

Beloved Arribella, whom we so adore, had an intrusion today, one we could not ignore. First she was a yankee, so true at heart. She then moved to France, her second arrogant part. The tour began with her talking, spitting out facts left then right, then having us interact by giving quizzes, what a fright! The day began with an early departure. Elz and I were a tad late, so as we entered the bus we got a round of applause. Ha, but it was ok! We began to head in town to Strasbourg in order to get our train tickets for our Paris trip tomorrow. It's a very good thing that we did because the train station is very large and very new for most of us, therefore the familiarity is not there. It took ... read more
