We have arrived! Paris. The City of Lights. Robert and Kathy left Dijon on a fast train to Paris this morning. Upon our arrival, Robert manuvered us on to the metro, where we made our way to the Hotel Royal Saint Michel, in the Latin Quarter, right around the corner from Notre Dame. Unfortunately, our luggage could not come with us on the elevator as there was barely room for Robert and Kathy. A new camera was purchased - there is no way we can go thru Paris without documenting our travels. After lunch at a sidewalk cafe, we hopped on [View Full Entry]

Paris

Hey everyone. Hope you are all good. Thanks for the messages, makes me feel loved, lol. Well, the last couple of days I have been in Paris, how I fell in love with that place. It is so nice, and most people I spoke to were really helpful and friendly, I wasn't expecting that. So, on the first day I was there, I got really lost, but eventually found where I had to be. I did my tour which included dinner on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, River Seine Cruise and seeing Moulin Rouge. All were well worth the [View Full Entry]

Culture Shock

 Europe » France » Īle-de-France » Paris
It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that things would be the same as last time. Since I had already spent a year in Bordeaux, France, I felt that I knew pretty well what to expect this time in Paris. I remember that last year, I experienced the “culture shock” quite intensely as I discovered something new every day in France. I was surprised about even the little things, such as drinking water from wine glasses, stores closes on Sundays (and Mondays), having to give a “bisous” (kiss on the cheek) when greeting people… and when to just [View Full Entry]

From Matt - Hey yall, We are in Paris and on a QWERTY keyboard. Isn't that ironic! We landed tuesday morning from Joburg and hit the ground running. Vance found a laundromat while I took Rush up to Sacre Cour. We are staying in Montmartre. Everything is either up or down. Lots of stairs and our legs are in good shape now. Paris is just as expensive as London so we are looking forward to getting home where prices are much better. Better bring your big cash if you plan on visiting Europe this year. Simple lunch is 12 - 15 [View Full Entry]

This blog is being posted on Tuesday because when we arrived at our hotel in London, I found we had to pay for the Internet... and being cheap, I am only paying for one 24 hour period. So, the final four blogs will be posted during this 24 hour period. It's 10 pounds for gawd sakes. It’s Good To Be The King… We only have a short stay in Paris, so we are squeezing in as much as possible. Today, Sunday, could be classified as “Seeing Paris in 50 Minutes or Less.” Actually, our day consisted of a bus tour around [View Full Entry]

Bonjour, Paris was excellent for the most part! We arrived about 10.00am Monday morning, jumped straight on the on & off bus tour (a bus tour which has three different lines that takes you all around Paris and you can get on and off as you please and just wait for the next bus to come along once you have done your tourist thing), so the first place we went was Notre Dame, here I seperated from James, June and the kids to carry on the tour by myself as we wanted to do different things, so I carried on to [View Full Entry]

So this entry is long overdue. I’ve been really slacking with the blog writing because I never have time, and when I do, I end up on facebook or distracted by something. Since I don’t want this to be 10 pages long, I will sort of sum up the last 2 weeks as briefly as possible (will still be long though). 2 weeks ago I went to Carcasonne, France. It is in the south of France, just north of the mountains. As you’ve seen in my pix, it was beautiful. I ended up going alone because Valerie couldn’t get a return [View Full Entry]

Paris at night

I think I'm doing pretty well at adapting to life here in Paris. Really upped the inefficiency, cut back on the inappropriate jokes and yelling, stopped smiling so much, feign coughing fits as a result from 'smoking too many cigarettes' in order to cut the queues. But there is one thing I have fucked up on a weekly basis for three weeks now, and this is the fine art of remembering to BUY your food for the weekend on Saturday. Because Sunday sees an entire Paris shut down, no stores, no markets, no grocers. No nothing. And for somebody like me [View Full Entry]

Paris :)

Paris was unreal. Although a lot of the city smelled like pee, it was great. The first day we got there the first thing we did was run to the Eiffel Tower and it was awesome. Even though I've already seen it, its always amazing seeing it. Because its so much bigger than you think it is going to be. And even though its a silly radio attena structure, its beauiful. Then after the Eiffel Tower we went to the Musee d'Orsay. It was a really great museum with a lot of Degas and Rodin, which I really like. Then later [View Full Entry]

Day started off slow. Both of us could have slept for many hours more, however, we dragged our butts out of bed at 9:00. Steph was certain it was only 3am. The slow start may have led to us missing our 10:22 am train by about 2 minutes. Oh well, we did not stress. We are on holidays. Took the opportunity to walk around another part of town (Gare du Nord) for 2 hrs until the next train left. We took a 50 minute train to Arras and then a taxi to Vimy Ridge. We did a tunnel tour, walked around [View Full Entry]
