Denmark is made up of a number of islands in the Baltic Sea, and Jutland, a peninsular north of Germany. Predominantly flat, the highest natural point is only 171 metres above sea level. With a vast coastline, Denmark offers beaches, as well as inland forest areas and vast lakes.

Denmark holds a rich history, from the Vikings to one of the oldest monarchies dating back around 1000 years. In addition to it's traditional towns and cities, Denmark also holds Gothic churches, royal palaces and large manor houses, along with stunning examples of modern architecture. Denmark holds fame for the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson and every child's favourite toy, Lego.

Today is Saturday 28th June. We have been here for 18 days now, and boy oh boy has it been the hardest 18 days of our lives!!! So, a day in the life of a strawberry picker goes like this... Wake up at 5am! Get up, have something to eat. Put on funny little yellow overalls to protect our clothes from strawberry stains. Walk 5 minutes in the lovely yellow suit to the strawberry field ... the song gets kinda tedious after 10 straight days of this!;o) As we arrive at the field somebody lets a big fart rip and the [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Copenhagen in the late evening and was immediately struck by how freaking pristine this city was! It wasn't a happy visit however - my friends mother was dying in the hospital - I was an intruder during a tragic time in her life, and shouldn't have been there. Naturally, we didn't take part in any sight-seeing and drove out to the Northsea/Elsinore (home and inspiration of Shakespeare's Hamlet) for a few days to distract our minds from reality. Before my visit, I never dreamed Denmark would have such beautiful white sand beaches, but it does. The water is [View Full Entry]

So, here we are in Denmark … we've been here a week now and oh my god, how expensive is everything!!! A banana costs 50 pence in the train station and mars bar 90 pence and a can of coke 1 pound 10 pence!!! .. but wait for it ... a kitkat is 1 pound 50 pence!!!!! but we were told to expect that in copenhagen, everywhere else the prices are slightly more than the UK but not too bad, we hope! We got what is called a s-train from copenhagen to solrød strand, and then a bus that runs [View Full Entry]

What I enjoyed most was the paintings on the square ground, that looked real from afar. It's mad. And the Princess of Denmark was educated at my school! (The one who married the younger prince). [View Full Entry]

Ok, first of all, the title is very misleading. Sometimes the journey is half the fun of getting to your destination. Other times the journey is nothing shy of a cumbersome and strenuous way of getting from point A to point B. As much as I would have wished for a non-stop journey that time, it was clearly the opposite. I like airplanes - they take you where you want to go faster than any other means of transportation. However, by no means does this always equal a smooth and relaxing trip. The concept of stop-overs effectively spoils this idyllic idea. [View Full Entry]

DAY 20 - WEDNESDAY 8 SEPTEMBER Got up too early and caught the Tube to Heathrow. It?s a lot more accessible and cheaper than Gatwick and the ?2 fare is an absolute bargain. There are two stops, Terminals 1,2 & 3 and Terminal 4, so if you?re catching a flight from Heathrow make sure you know where it?s departing from. For me this marked the second stage of the tour, as I was about to enter a country where unlike New Zealand, USA, Canada, Ireland and England, English was not the dominant language. The flight departed at 8.30am, arriving into Copenhagen [View Full Entry]

Doing the military service is in Sweden - as in many countries - when boys turn into men. When leaving the service it is tradition to go on a trip, to celebrate the fist time of freedom as men or something. Our rather large group of failures is no different. However, getting a large group to steer in the same direction turns out to be an impossible task. So, while others spread out wherever, we form a small group of brave soldiers to invade Copenhagen. This in times when there wasn't even talk of a bridge. Therefore, train and a boat [View Full Entry]
