Saturday morning on vacation and im up at 630!!! Ha not if Benny didnt wake me up thats for sure. HAHA i was a little groggy but I wasnt used to this crap anymore. Anyways got er going today we would be at a differnet place working on where the roof meets the side of the house. Made our lunches, grabbed our coffees and we were off.
It was only 10 mins away from Bennies compared to 35 mins away to Korsor. We had to remember a few extra things in the morning but Benny took care of that action. We arrived at the guys house and Benny told me he was trying to sell it and the market wasnt so good so we had to make it look pretty! Rotten boards had to be ripped off and replaced. The man introduced himself and starting saying things a mile a minute in Danish to me. I felt kinda bad I wished I could have replied. He was very appologetic and asked me about Canada and where I was from and what I was doing in Denmark. Super nice guy. Benny told me he was the guy who gave him, his drivers
license, and now he teaches driving to the navy. But the lady didnt say a word to me, and left with her daughter.
They rented this wicked machine, which was sitting in their driveway. Cue the pic. Never seen one like this before, but I never got to use it. I didnt even really want to in case I broke something because im sure it was reall y expensive. The lady who we were working for worked at the rental place I think so she got a deal to rent it for the weekend.
Benny was up on the lift and I tried to be as helpful as I could, but he told me to relax!! HA dont think I didnt. But I went to work.organizing the boards to be cut. The lady had painted them and I think she might of done it 20 mins ago because they were still freaking wet. Got white all over my hands. So did Benny, so I put em out on the roof racks to dry, hopefully. Same type of work schedule which was great. We stopped and had some coffee on the table outside. After I was on my second sangy, the
WOwIT moves itself
sweet old guy comes out and says I have some stuff inside for you and more coffee. Should have seen Bennies eyes. I think he was secretly hoping for this invitation.
Really nice old house more than 200 years old. Very antiquely decorated with rope outlining the walls to the ceilngs and lotsa oak. Old timber was used you could really tell. He had some pasty thing and fresh coffee. It was great,
Back to work Benny showed me how to stager the boards cuts so that it fit perfectly to the tiles on the roof. He told me I could teach my dad this. Another cool thing I realized was they had this odd type, ruler;-tape measure you could fold up. Never seen that anywhere. He told me I should take one of these home with me. Way better than a tape he thinks. Worked untill around noon and he had lunch ready for us!! Perfect!!! Even had beers, tons of different types of open faced sandwhiches. After we finished up he made us an espresso. God this was a first class type of job, I can get used to this for sure.
Back at it again we almost
had the first one done. The next one didnt have to have the insides of the framing replaced so it was much easier. Just the rotten board.Took only a minute to rip it off. Had the sequence down now. Small break around 2 ish and finished up the second board. Then we ripped the barns boards. One of them didnt come off so we had no jig to go off of, so Benny would be tested here. One of them ripped off no problems, so we could trace it and rip it back up. We cut it out and then glued it up cause it had a slight angle on the board, around 10 degrees maybe.
Finished up and jumped in the van to go say hi to Renee. Pulled into the driveway in about 10 mins but he wasnt there and wasnt answering the damn phone. He was sleeping inside but we didnt know this, to give him a hard time. Benny showed me the house, well the yard anyways. And then we took off for a short tour.
We stopped at this memorial place where a couple rocks sat. The had inscriptions about important people from back in
the 1500s. Crazyness, Then we walked a little further to see the lion. This was Denmarks most prized scultpure which Benny told me was stolen by the Germans from them many many years ago, He also told me my Grandpa Arne and Uncle Karl had climbed up this lion in the forrest and I had to do it as well. Too bad I couldnt get up!!!! HA it was impossible so slippery and I can ususally climb anything. No grip, he even tried to hold my foot not gonna work. So another idea. A ladder!!! I felt like such a wuss but tradition is tradition right so there ya go thats the story of the ladder. Got a few good pics and carried that heavy bastard back to the van.
After that we kept on and he showed me a propane plant processing methane and thats why it smelt so bad!! Ha Huge domes in the middle of a field I wondered what they were.He showed me tons of houses that my family had lived in. Great Grandpa, Grandpa and Great Uncles. He showed me the pond where, the two brothers Arne and Paul had tired to drown there younger
brother Ingeman ha. It wouldnt be funny unless you knew him. This was in a tiny town called Skaelskor where Grandpa was born. Showed me Johns old house where we visited last time.Showed me his high school, and the old folks home where his dad last lived. And now it was beer oclock
We stopped at the grocery store in Dalmose, which im told is the more expensive place because its the only one there in the tiny town. So we got an assortment of beers including elephant beer and i wanted to try some herring so we got two different kinds. Benny is great did I mention that. So kind, He just wanted me to enjoy Denmark. I tired to pay and he says dont be silly you have been working.
Happy hour in the garden.Had a simple dinner cause Svetlana was working.Leftovers with Katofler salad. John came over around 930 to pick up some logs for his house or ranch or something. He had a buddy of his with him that was younger than me I think. He said he was his apprentice!!! I believed him. But John works with the Lodt. He is a shit pumper. What can
Ladderim not a wuss there this was the only way i could get up no handles!
I say you have to make a living somehow. We had a coffee with him and he tried to figure out if he could fit in a visit. I sure hope so, hes a great guy. He was just scratching his chin thinking. We finished up and he had to go. I asked him if I wasnt gonna see him can I get a picture. He said no I WILL SEE YOU! SO there ya go.
It was getting late by now so Benny and I headed to bed. Night night
