Well, three cities down and approaching the halfway mark, time is flying. Having boarded the train in Stockholm we were well prepared for the almost five hour journey to Copenhagen. More than enough time to eat a pack of double cream Oreos, watch some TV, catch up on emails (both work and personal) and publish the latest blog entry. On arrival at Central Station in Copenhagen it was a 15 minute walk to our apartment, the second Airbnb for this trip. This time though it was a little different as rather than an empty furnished apartment rented purely out for Airbnb purposes, this was someone's house. We spent the afternoon in Christiania, then "alternative lifestyle" village on the other side on the canal. Ehh, it was okay. Most exciting part for me were the drug sniffing dogs when you go to get back on the subway!... read more

It is sweater and candle weather in Scandinavia! My knitting needles are delighted by the change, and so far, I am enjoying it, too! Mads and I managed to squeeze in some out of town adventures in September. Exploring Denmark outside of Copenhagen is something we both enjoy. With Mads’ parent’s car, we zoomed off one Friday afternoon for the island of Møn (I am glad I just have to type it, not pronounce it!). The impetus came from me giggling at the image on a Starbuck’s mug; there was an outline of cliffs that made me think of Ireland or England, but did not match my experience of super flat Denmark. For my first weekend in Denmark, I decided to take a look around Copenhagen. It was a good day for a walk in the city, and one of my housemates came along too. Our house isn't quite in Copenhagen, so we took the train and metro to get there. We already knew where we wanted to go, but since neither of us had mobile data, we went to the nearest information centre to get a map. Walking through the streets and alleys, it was interesting to see the mix of old buildings with some newer ones. There are old churches, palaces, castles, fortresses, theatres, libraries, etc. scattered around the city. I mean, really old. Hundreds of years old. You don't see that in NZ.
