Hi everyone Creating the blog on a tablet has not been as easy as on a computer and this time I am having trouble viewing the photos when im on one particular browser. If you can't see any photos when you open it as usual then try copying and pasting the address into another browser and see if they show up. 43 or so images do exist - just a matter of finding them.... read more

NORWAY - the coastline from Bergen to Kirkenes was absorbing and everchanging. From the majestic, towering cliffs and fiords to the rolling hills and small towns in the north and the many islands and inlets passed each day- the scenery was unforgetable. The Hurtigruten experience worked so well for us-the weather was fine, seas calm and the 24 hour day gave us dramatic skies and total confusion as to the time. SWEDEN AND THE INLANDSBANAN- After leaving the Polarlys at Harstad, we crossed over the mountains via the Arctic Railway on the major iron ore transpot line and joined Inslandbanan - a single carriage tourist train ambling through the countryside of Swedish Lapland! What a change of pace and scenery. Water was everywhere as it ran from the mountains across Sweden to the Baltic. Rivers fed ... read more

It started off as these events tend to do – at Folkestone. Cusco the Chief Spaniel always states that he needs his meal at the pub (chicken and rice in a bucket) before he can face the Eurotunnel the next day. This time, however, there is a surprise for him and the dear readers as on this trip we are heading to the far north !! Yes indeed, none of this mollycoddling in the balmy temperatures of Aguilas, but to Nordkapp deep into the Arctic circle, so prepare for stories of ice, snow, trolls and Vikings or if the weather stays good, a few showers of rain but a generally easy trip . After driving through Belgium and Holland with an overnight stop in a town called Lierop where we were carefully examined by some calves, ... read more

Ich ... read more

There is a song that starts off with ‘What a difference a day makes’ but this morning we could be singing ‘What a difference a night makes’. We think we might have caught up now on what we lost last night in Oppedal in the ‘double ‘bed. We were both feeling refreshed from the previous day and ready for the drive to Copenhagen which will include a short ferry crossing. We had thought about taking the bridge from the southern tip of Sweden at the city of Malmo which would have bought us directly into Copenhagen. However the cost was quite a bit more than the ferry from further up the Swedish coast and closer to Asa which would then give us a drive down a scenic road on the Danish east coast to the city ... read more

We have woken this morning and cannot believe our good fortune with the sun shining brightly and a lovely blue sky free of any visible cloud. What a cracker of a day to head off and explore Copenhagen and make the most of our short stay in a city that we have waited a while to see. Having done a bit of research we have worked out that the main city sights are within a fairly compact area and to gain an appreciation of them we are going to take the 1 hour Grand Canal Boat trip. We can then decide what we want to walk to on foot and go back and see from dry land. By the time we were ready to leave a couple of hours later after breakfast the sky was starting ... read more

Today Copenhagen, mission day, boat docked at 8.30a.m. and straight off in search of the Australian Embassy to vote, it was about 1.5klm walk from the ship so that was very easy, first there and had to wait for 15 minutes and had a good chat to the security guy whose Aunt is married to an Aussie and lives in Canberra, ex army guy, now studying law, who has very fond, fond memories of Aussie soldiers in Afghanistan , he said they sometimes fought alongside the Brits but the Aussies were real fun guys and had great sense of humour. He said they had had quite a few Aussies voting over the last week and expecting a few from the ship today, as we were leaving there were about another 10 coming in, one staff member ... read more

I was really looking forward to going to Europe once again... I couldn’t believe it had been 2,5 years since I was last there! It was actually the longest time away from home so far... where did the time go? And even though I had been to Denmark once before, I can’t really say I saw any of it at all back then as it was just a short bus trip to Legoland when I was a kid... I think the bus journey took longer than the actual stay in Denmark... So going there now felt as if I was going to a totally new country. New and yet familiar as after all it’s good old Europe... It’s where I grew up and where I spent most of my life in... As much as I was ... read more

6th May - 8th May 2016 Copenhagen – the land of tanned, blue eyed, blonde haired beauties. It is the cultural centre for Denmark – a lively, stylised city – a very liveable city and the most bicycle-friendly city in the world. Locals ride gracefully around town, arriving at their destination with an elegant swing of the leg across their chic bike, all in one movement without a single disturbance in momentum. And then there’s me who’s half riding my bike and half pushing myself along the curb trying not to fall in gardens because I am so mesmerised by the beautiful locals.. and beautiful scenery.. The meaning of the name København is ‘Merchants Harbor’ as the city is based on the coast of the island Zealand and has many canals running through the centre which ... read more

Rose, Alan and I walked all over central Copenhagen today. We visited the Ny Carslberg Glyptotek, which has a pretty good collection of Greek and Roman objects including lots of statues. There is a special exhibition on Gauguin as well. We ended up on one of the islands at a place with all sorts of food vendors - and an immense number of Danes hanging out in the brilliant sunshine, eating & quaffing beer. Pulled pork sandwiches - a Danish favourite - and German wheat beer. What could be better?... read more
