So, here's a bit on the first few days...
On the way here my first flight was delayed and I got stuck in Chicago for an extra night. I ended up taking a flight the next day at 4:30 with a layover in Stockholm. With the time change, I left my house at 6:00 on a Friday and finally arrived in Copenhagen at about 11:00 am on a Sunday -- long trip!
I made it to my place okay, my suitcase only fell over 50 times and I only was almost ran over and yelled at once. Apparently the red man means "don't walk." The place I am staying and the family I'm currently staying with are all very nice. I'm very close to the train station, but according to some of the other students in my class I'm "not really near anything." I haven't been into the city yet, so its hard for me to tell.
Sunday night I went to a pub across the street and met a group of Danes who had just returned from a soccer game. They were big fans of the Copenhagen soccer team and apparently were very excited about some huge win that evening. (Dad - think steelers post playoff win). They were very friendly and most of them spoke at least some english. They bought me lots of beers and insisted that to get the true Copenhagen experience I needed to show up to my first day of work hungover. I thought it was funny that one guy was asking where I was from and I kept saying Texas until he finally asked more clearly "The US is only 200 years old - where are you really from?" On the way out it was sprinkling a bit, and a nice man gave me his umbrella to keep.
On Monday morning I made it to DTU and met some of the students. Its a very big research group, and like in the US, primarily male. You can take public transportation just about anywhere here, and I've managed to only get on the wrong bus once. The last few days I have mostly been working and trying to get over the cold I caught on the way here.
Today is a holiday at school, but I think I will work for a bit now since I won't be here tomorrow -- heading to Amsterdam for the weekend to hang out with Matt and his sister. I think I'll leave my computer here, so I probably won't update this until I return on Monday.
