Ahoj my enthralled readers! I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated this thing, and I apologize. Life here is crazy in Česká republika, there’s always lots going on and things to do, but since I saw all of you at Christmas and updated you on some of the things going on here, I think I’ll skip a lot and tell you about my post-Christmas adventures. After spending New Year’s Day sick flying from Boston to Amsterdam to Prague, I finally made it back to Havlíčkův Brod and got right back in the swing of school. Not surprisingly, the first day back to school was difficult, as I had just arrived in Havlíčkův Brod roughly 12 hours beforehand, and my internal clock was all screwed up with the time change. However, I persevered and survived. ... read more

Just a short, no pictures entry. On wednesday there was a public holiday in the Czech Republic celebrating the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which overthrew the Czechoslovakian single-party communist state in 1989. On this day many small towns have markets popping up, as it serves as a great reason for people to start their christmas shopping. Jessica, Jakub and I took a 2 hour trip to Havlíčkův Brod, a small historical town about halfway between Prague and Brno in the midst of the Vysočina region, where I had previously never been. The town square was thriving with interesting stalls, mostly of craftwork and local food (the speciality of this region is "zabijáčka", basically meat from a ritual pig slaughter). We also saw someone serving goulash from a cauldron, and a lot of honey-based snacks (including ... read more

Happy Friday! I currently don’t have internet in my apartment for some reason, so while I wait for the guy to come check it out, I decided I’d write you all a little about this past week and some of the other things going on here that I haven’t included in my other blogs, and then will post it once my internet’s up and running again. Yesterday ended my first full week of teaching, which is kind of wild to think about, given that I’ve been here now more than a month. Anyways, I thought I’d just tell you about some of the things that my students and I do, and tell you a little about the Czech system as well. If I write things I’ve already written in previous entries, I apologize, but bear with ... read more

I apologize for the long wait for my next blog, these past few weeks have been ridiculous busy! It’s been more than a month now that I’ve been constantly traveling, be it to Boston, to New York, to the Czech Republic, back and forth between Prague, to Brno, to Moravská Třebová, and now on Thursday, I’m headed to Italy! It’s been a blast, but exhausting at the same time, and I’ve also yet to have steady internet (and won’t have internet in my apartment until the 29th!), so bear with me in the amount of things I’m about to talk about! Since we last spoke, I’ve been teaching at the medical school. My first week went fairly well, except for the fact that I was very sick. The weather here is naturally much drier than in ... read more

Ahoj, I'm writing to you now from a small café on the main square of Havlíčkův Brod. At the moment, I still don't have internet in my apartment, so I've been coming here instead to check my email, etc. If I haven't responded to your last comments yet, I apologize, and hopefully this entry'll take care of some your questions. This past week has been very eventful. The last time we spoke, I was in Prague in a hotel enjoying the comforts of having a chair to sit on and a lamp so I could actually see. Oh, and a shower curtain, that was important. After a trip to IKEA and buying myself a small lamp and a shower curtain (Great success!), I went to bed and woke up bright and early to head to Praha ... read more
