It started raining in the evening and although it looked like the usual thunderstorm it didn’t stop, and it was still raining fairly steadily in the morning. We had done a wash in the evening so hung the line across the inside of the van from the bathroom door to a catch on the ceiling over the bed. The washing dries in the breeze as it flaps back and forward from the movement of the van. The camp is near the Vienna Woods so we took a detour through this lovely forested area - all deciduous trees - not sure what type but looked really nice even in the rain and mist. We worked our way through various bits of Vienna to get to the autobahn - through narrow and busy streets, narrow enough that I clipped the side mirror of the van on another car - at least it folded back and didn’t break. The autobahn was great and the kilometres go by at 120km/hr with no slowing down for anything. We had one lot of sightseeing planned for today and had to make a side excursion into the Czech republic. We had debated which way to get back to Berlin - it is shorter through the Czech republic but the roads are much worse - we opted to drive right around two sides of the Czech republic instead.
Cesky Krumlov is supposed to be a mini version of Prague and it was just wonderful—you walk in under a 3 tier bridge between 2 high cliffs—2 tiers of arches then a row of houses on top. After that theres many little streets all gorgeous and picturesque, I couldn’t stop taking pictures. Up to a castle past a bear pit with 3 sleepy looking brown bears in it—not terribly exciting unfortunately. A lovely palace , gorgeous views, on the way down we bought a street snack, long pieces of dough curled around a metal cylinder and grilled, then rolled on ground nuts and cinnamon and sugar—it was very yummy. We drove thru a famous woods and walking area which was very pretty with lots of lakes, very prosperous farming areas too with big well tended fields and old traditional farm buildings. Finally got back on the lovely autobahn and ate up the k’s at 120 km/hr, and then a lovely camping ground
