I would like to start this one off by saying: EVERYONE NEEDS TO VISIT PRAGUE. It is by far one of the most beautiful places on the planet and very deserving of your time. That being said, pictures do not do this city justice. As I said to my brother, "The city is so fucking beautiful that you climb to the top--see the entire city take a picture, and then immediately want to smash your camera for not capturing what your eyes are seeing." Now, the post:
Friday
After taking in the first few moments of the gorgeous city, one must look around and instantly realize that Czech boasts, by far, the hottest men in Europe. Seriously. This place is like hot dude central...even the guys wearing reflective work vests were just flat out panty-droppers.
We get to our hostel, which honestly was more like our own apartment (for only 20 euros a night--ah thank you Jackie for doin research) and are given incredibly good advice and some maps from Rod (yes--Rod was our hostel helper's name). We find our room talk about how fucking awesome it is, chill out for a few, then decided to mosey downtown/city center
Stare Mesto for a dinner recommended by "Let's Go Germany" (thank you Caryn, this book was incredibly helpful navigating and picking places in Prague!) We landed on Kozicka, a goat themed (yes you read that correctly) restaurant with traditional Czech cuisine--Jackie and I got the house specials and shared. Dumplings with spiced meat and spinach and Goulash with potato pancakes! Nom.Nom.Nom. amazing. On the way back we run into a small street fair! Hot honey wine, Czech beers, sausages, pig roasts, cabbage/potato/meat mixtures, candy, cookies, cakes, handmade crafts and such, and street crepes! We meandered around and tried the drinks and a couple treats then hit the hostel bar for a quick drink before bed. I feel like it is worth mentioning that this bar was in the basement and felt more like a bad house party....with some douche bartending and making you pay for drinks. I ordered a gin and tonic that came in like a 16oz glass with a splash of gin and an entire full glass of tonic. fucking awful. worst 60 crowns I ever spent. and as a frame of reference 1 crown = 20 dollars = 23 euros.
Saturday
I should
Goulash
yummmmmm call Saturday "When in Prague--drink absinth." But first--do not let anyone tell you that you need to take any kind of transportation in Prague. Contrary to what the maps look like everything is within walking distance of everything. Plus walking/attempting-to-get-lost-but-not-being-able-to-because-everything-is-so-close-together is the best way to see the city. Also, I would like to toot my own horn here and say that I OWNED navigating around Prague...they couldn't hide shit from this girl. Plus with all the steep hills and stairs on inclines, it's a pretty serious glut work-out. Saturday was spent doing everything recommended by "Let's Go!" and Rod plus our personal research.
Our top 4 things to see: 1. The Old Jewish Cemetery (in Josefov = Jewish Town)
2. Charles Bridge
3. Prague Castle/Royal Gardens
4. The John Lennon Wall
Walked the old castle steps to the top of the city and got the most breath-taking view that ever existed. Walked the royal gardens. Walked the Charles bridge to the Lennon Wall. Wrote on the wall--that's right. This Perry is part of Prague now! Treated myself with absinth ice cream and coffee! (I deserve a treat after contributing to history right!?) Then just aimlessly walked around taking
in whatever tickled our fancy. We ate at the street fair. mmmmmmm! I could live off Czech food...so hefty and tasty and shit, with all the inclines and walking I'd probably only gain half the amount of weight! (obviously, I'd be doing more eating than walking). Just an incredible day.
What I ate in Prague OR Why my toilet hates me
- Hot brie cheese with cranberry and bananas
- Goulash and Potato Pancakes
- Spiced meat dumplings with spinach
- Hot honey wine
- Cabbage soup
- Garlic bagel
- Passion iced tea
- Cappuccino
- Absinth ice cream + Coffee
- Potato/cabbage/meat mixture
- Spätzle/cabbage/meat mixture
- Nutella crepe
- Czech beer (vom Faß! = on tap)
- Espresso + Croissant
I will post the picture but I promise they don't do it justice. I think it further proves this when you see how ugly the postcards are...seriously...the most beautiful city in the world and they can't even justify it on a postcard.
Going to Oktoberfest on Friday. Wearing my dirndl. yes, of course I brought a dirndl. Hope you're ready for our next installment of ridiculousness!
