Hello all my peeps,
So last week was my 'reading week' in the English Department here at the grand ol' University of York, which basically means we had no class and were supposed to get ahead on reading. Which I did, but I decided not to sit around and do it in York, as is my usual routine. Instead, I took a quick trip up to Edinburgh to spend Valentines Day with Mia and her dad who was visiting from the States (pics of that to come...), and then I hopped a flight over to Prague to spend a few days with Ian. He is teaching English in Prague this year, and has been in the city since this summer. Needless to say, he knows his way around really well by now and was a fabulous tour guide. I did spend a bit of time alone trying to navigate the city, and that of course resulted in a few hilarious moments of me being confused and trying to communicate in the three Czech words I knew. Besides my own inadequacies as a non-czech speaking traveller, Prague was amazing. The city itself is gorgeous, and to top it off it snowed about
6 inches my first night there (just what I had wished for). The skyline and town squares and the Charles Bridge covered in snow were the vision of Prague just as I had always imagined it. As for Ian's life there, I am really impressed. His apartment is a bit out of the city center, but in a really great neighborhood... one where the snow stays around for a long while! His friends were so welcoming and cool... and although it's REALLY difficult to compare to the nightlife in York, I'd say that Prague has us beat :) Anyway, the pics are really worth more than my long rant. I hope that whatever you all are doing, that you are happy and healthy and livin' life to the fullest. Send me emails, they make me happy!
PS... an addendum to this entry-- Ian told me that in the C.R., all women's last names/surnames end in 'OVA'. As in if I married Jude Law, just for an example, my name would be Ryan Lawova. Currently, my name would be Ryan Bowlesova. So when you see posters for movies coming out etc. in Prague, usually they'll say 'Julia Robertsova' or Hilary
Swankova' etc. I thought that was rather hilarious, and forgot to include it last time :)
Love,
Ry
