Amber's Journal:
Today was another busy but beautiful day in Prague. We have only been here a short time but I love this city. I really hope we have the opportunity to come back here again. Today we went back to the Jewish quarter for a bit. There is a small space behind a synagogue which was designated as the only place the Jews were allowed to bury their dead back in the day. As a result the graves are packed in very tightly and stacked on top of each other. We only got to see it through the fence but it was neat. After that we walked back through old town square and toured the Tyn church. It has a unique history and is very ornate. We then walked to the New Town (which was actually built in the 1300's) and saw Wenceslaus Square. It was cool to see but I enjoy the Old Town much better. We then ate lunch at the Czech Kitchen. It was highly recommended to us but we were not very impressed. I honestly am not a huge fan of Czech food in general. After lunch we walked across the Charles Bridge with all of
its statues and street vendors. We saw some of the "Little Quarter" before hopping a tram up to the Castle. I was grateful for the tram because the Castle is at the top of a huge hill and we were already exhausted. Once we got there we saw the monastery, the Loretta Church, the New and Old palaces and the Cathedral. The highlight was by far the St. Vitus Cathedral. It is an incredible building inside and out. Every detail of it is amazing. The views from the Castle Square were beautiful. By this time our feet were aching so we walked down the hill and sat by the river for a bit. Then we walked back to Old Town to watch the astronomical clock at the top of the hour. It was cool but not as cool as I thought it would be. It also has an interesting history. Then we walked back to Wenceslaus Square where Preston got a huge bratwurst and I got a piece of pizza. We stopped at a couple of souvenir shops and caught the tram back to the hotel. Our feet are throbbing and we are exhausted but we have gotten to see
everything we wanted to so it was worth it. I really could walk the streets of old town for hours, and never get bored. And someday when we are rich I am going to come back here and buy some crystal. They have beautiful crystal and glass here! I am so exited that we got to come here and will be sad to leave tomorrow.
Preston's Journal:
My legs, feet and back took a beating today. We walked quite a ways, and most of it was on cobblestone, which is not nice on the feet. But, like yesterday evening in Prague, it was great. We woke up about 7:15, got ready, had breakfast downstairs, and caught the tram for old-town. We went through the Jewish quarter again, seeing the old Jewish cemetery. We then went to the Tyn church... freaking huge! And free! Everything inside was so ornate and gigantic. We also saw Wenceslas square, which by itself wasn't anything great, but a few buildings were neat, tons of shops, and some local Czechs as well. Eating at the "Czech Kitchen" for lunch was an experience, as nothing was in English, and the lady didn't like my Czech I
guess. Some old ladies (which drink beer here too) sat by us and I said a few things to them. Also, the fruit dumplings I've heard about for years are not really that great. Charles Bridge (karluv most) is neat, but I don't think it was as cool as everybody makes it sound. From there we went up the hill to Prague Castle, on the tram fortunately. St Vitus cathedral was really the most impressive thing, as the castle itself wasn't what you would usually think of. St Vitus was larger than Tyn, and had tons of stained glass, along with the supposed casket of St. John (which is made out of tons of silver, almost literally). The castle square was neat, and there were several amazing views of Prague. Throughout the day we bought some souvenirs, and just thoroughly enjoyed seeing everything. For dinner I had a sausage and roll, which was probably the best meal I'd had here. It is amazing here. The buildings had to have taken so long, and they are so huge and beautiful... plus most things here are pretty darn cheap. It is strange thinking that tomorrow I am already leaving Prague... so long waiting,
and so quickly gone... but it's been wonderful.

Astronomical ClockYou can't see it very well but at the top of the hour the apostles move through the windows of the clock.
