Prague? Why Prague?

My family asked me that question many times before our trip began. Well, we were asking it too this morning when my roommates, just a few hours after finishing packing were getting up and getting us up in the process. I booked an early evening flight to Prague to give Jessie plenty of sleep after her marathon flight yesterday, but it turned out we were up pretty early anyways. We got ready, and we went out for coffee. We were greeted by horrible weather in London, surprisingly enough, because it had been nice for over two months. After we got our coffee fix, we headed back to my flat to clean stuff up before returning my key. We ate some leftovers from last night and then cleaned out the fridge— where some food from months ago seemed to be coming to life. I, without any regret, left my front door for the last time and we once again braved the wind and rain to get to the bus that would take us to London’s Luton Airport. The transfer and check-in went smoothly, and then we waited, and waited, and waited. I had left a lot of time, and the flight was very late. Apparently, the “no frills” the airline promised included a lack of promptness. We got to Prague and I immediately remembered “why Prague.” It was the perfect beginning. I got us lost—well me and inadequate directions from the hostel website—got us lost. Our walk through the wrong part of town after taking a tram the wrong direction revealed beautiful streets, full of character and vibrant residents. I could’ve stayed lost in Prague for the month and been happy. Jessie, however, was tired. A couple hours of extra sleep in the morning doesn’t completely cure a 9 hour time leap. We discovered the mistake and checked into the Czech Inn—quite possibly the most brilliantly named hostel in the history of hostels. It was pretty nice too. I managed to convince Jessie she was more hungry than tired. We went back into town and found— after getting lost, on purpose this time, I promise— a restaurant my Let’s Go book recommended. It was in an old stone cellar and our table was candlelit. Jessie had a craving for meat. She was happy to hear that’s what the restaurant specialized in. She had some beef, while I for first time actually ate rabbit. I can now say it doesn’t taste like chicken; it tastes better. I, again wanted to stay in the main part of town all night, but Jessie made me face reality. We had to sleep sometime.
