NYE concert in Wenceslas SquareFor the next 24 hrs, Nick kept singing his favourite lyrics from the night, "Moscow, Moscow....mwoah, mwoah, mwoah, mwoah, mwoah" (use wicked laugh.)
Stopped in a little hidden away corner of the Czech Republic, in a town called Cesky Krumlov. It's probably a very nice place in summer. Plenty of people had found their way here, including lots of Aussies. On our first night, Lisa and I duly took our share of the free keg which was on offer by the hostel, while chatting with a guy who claims to be the scriptwriter and engineer behind some of the biggest punk rock and pop groups in the Czech Republic (mind you, I'm still trying to find the Support Lesbians' latest CD in the shops). The best thing about Krumlov was that it produced our first dump of snow for the season!
We then headed up to Prague for New Year celebrations. The crowds were massive everywhere we went, from dawn to midnight, for the four days that we were there. And it was freezing! It all built up to New Year's Eve - fireworks were being set off from all directions across the city and something of a 'bomb site'/'no go zone' evolved at the top of Wenceslas Square. Another highlight was the dodgy Europop concert that we jigged away to in the
Prague Castle at nightApparently the largest castle complex in Europe. The crowd behind the walls was a swarm. The torture chamber in there looked truly cruel.
Square on NYE. It was a wonderful night, with fireworks over the castle as well as all over the city - not as orchestrated as Sydney but impressive with its randomness and wide participation. Finally, yes, beer is cheaper than water in Prague - what is one to do?
