Time to relect on our trip so far.....Scott and i have currently traveled through 22 countries in just under 5 months ( currently in Prague) and over a glass of wine we were reflecting on our trip todate and thought we should share some thoughts with our friends and family since many of you are starting to ask.
So here we go
2 Favourite countries: laura: Holland and Guatamala. Even though it rained the entire time in holland i found the culture facinating and the bike life. LIfe was simple and most people were "high on life" as for Guatamala it is unlike any other country and the history of the mayan people is so rich in the surroundings around you whether your in the Ancient city of Antigua or the chilled lifestlye of Lake atalin.
Scott: Ireland and Mexico, 3 words about Mexico -beaches, food and Beer and SUN. Ireland is very simalar to NZ, countryside is stunning, people friendly and beer of course.
Favourite big city: Laura: New York. This was a tough one as i really liked London and Paris but New York wins. The nightlife was awesome, on a scale of things everything is
massive!! loved central park, it was a great time to spend Easter Weekend.
Scott: London, transport was great, so much to see and do!
2 most rememberable moments: Laura: tikal, Guatamala, standing on a 2000 year old temple, above rainforrest level with monkeys around you, looking out towards the horizon, watching the sunset: priceless. the second moment was biking through the Bavarian countryside and hiking up to the Newschwantein Castle which i have wanted to visit since learning german in high school. Amazing.
Scott: eating fish tacos and ceviche with beers on Tulum Beach, Mexico, yum. Attending the Chelsie football game in London thanks to Uncle Rex.
Pleasantly surprised by......El Salvador. this country was not on the oringial plan as we heard too many bad things about it. it wasnt untilcwe meet other travelers and decided to travel as a group we changed our plans and headed to El Tunco a beach town in El Salvador and was pleasantly surprised. It was less touristy than Costa rica and just as pretty. We could of stayed a few weeks but 5 days was all we had......
Best Beach The best beach was Tulum, Mexico. But
we still have many more to see throughout the summer of Europe.
Most sadest moment: Dachau concentration camp, Munich, Germany. We had a guided tour which was very good as we learnt things we would not have known. However the things we saw and heard about were horrific and very sad. Dachau was one for the first concentration camps set up before WW2 commenced and one of the last to be liberated by American soliders. The first colour film footage was shot here by american shortly after liberating the camp. We saw this and it was very surreal experience. Almost 80,000 people lost their lives here under situations i dont even want to share so we are glad we paid tribute to them.
Most educational moment: There have been many of these moments daily, a few were
• discovering the history of the Central european countries as we knew little about them before leaving
• coffee tours in panama were intresting
• history of famous architects such as Gaudi were also facinating
• concentraltion camps
But one that sticks out is the battle of Normandy and when the American, British and Canadian troops helped liberate
france from the Germans in WW2. Visiting the museums and sights of where everything occured and watching saving private ryan (cant believe i hadnt seen it) was a rewarding and educational part of our trip.
♥ Most romantic moment: Laura: Eifffel tower by night with the glitter lights and picnic by day. Scott: taking Laura out for dinner in Boquette, Panama for our 3 year anniversary.
Most frightening moment: Boarder control at Hondurous..
Biggest Rip off: Taxi driver in his 80's in Panama City. Don't think old people can't fool they are usually the best and boarder transport passing through Hondourus.
Number of times sick: Laura: food poising mild in El Savador and head cold in Germany due to weather being wet all this time. Scott: servere food posining from McDonalds, Guatamala and Belgium food poisening mild. Pretty lucky really.
Most Unexpected moments: The forever unpredictable mother Earth. We are currently in Prague where they are experiecing the worst flooding since 2002. 8 people have died. Its a strange feeling seeing so many buildings and houses destroyed by mother nature. We have been in cold weather
4 weeks longer than planned. We are hoping the European summer arrives soon as we are running very low on winter clothes as we left most behind in London.
Overall this is a relection we wanted to share with you all. There are so many more memories we cant wait to share with you all upon our return to New Zealand. Most importantly the great experiences we have had, have been shared with many amazing people we have meet along the way. Without these people the memories would not been the same and of course we have each other - how lucky we are to have meet one another and seeing the globe, a dream Scott and I have both shared since we meet.....♥♥♥
