Mary Anne -Prague, Czech Republic
Last two days of our three week tour of four countries. We took the train from Vienna to Prague and found that our hotel accommodations were just a little bit less then perfect. After being picked up from the train station by bus we were taken to our hotel in a questionable neighborhood. Our room was the attic of the hotel. There were no wall windows only ceiling windows. I felt like maybe I was Anne Frank. It was the 4th floor and that means not 4 sets of stairs but 8 sets. They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger but I can’t say that. Anyway as long as I was careful and didn’t bump my head when I sat up in bed, I did OK.
On the first full day in Prague we did a walking tour of the rooms and gardens of PRAZSKY HRAD (Prague Castle). We started at the top and worked our way down though the Castle. Some of the things we saw were the Old Royal Palace with its incredible library of books from the earliest of time. Next was St. Vitus’s Cathedral which if you are
Christian or not it will knock your socks off. In the Cathedral there were several silver statues which were interesting since most of the statues were made of gold.
We also toured at the Prague Castle, St. George Basilica, St.Wenceslas Vineyard, and the Convent of St. George. We wound our way down the Golden Lane looking at small little shops selling every kind of little souvenir. Prague is such an ancient city, with so many amazing sights that it truly overwhelms you.
The next day (last day of trip) we took some free time and went into the large square called St. Wenceslas’ Square. This is the shopping Mecca of Prague. Since my husband Tim is Czech, I planned on going shopping and finding some Czech Crystal jewelry for my children. I am happy to report that I found the perfect gifts. Jim and I had lunch with a lady and her three children who are traveling all over the world for a year. They are friends of Jim’s daughter Cathy and her husband.
This trip has been one of the highlights of my life. I certainly don’t know people COULD BE SO WARM AND GIVING to
another culture. Thank you, Mary Anne Collins-Svoboda

Mary Anne has pretty well covered Prague or at least what we saw of Prague. It is truly stunning and I would love to spend at least another week or two exploring Prague. The Castle area is great but I found the old down town area around ST. Wenceslas Square intriguing and interesting. The transportation system was very good similar to Budapest. As Mary Anne said, the hotel was interesting even if it was less than comfortable.
Last but by no means least; Mary Anne was a great traveling companion. She was the same as when we were kids, you never knew what she might do but you were always sure it would be interesting. Our 12 other Friendship Force are now great friends. Our host from Austria, Irmgard is truly a dear and treasured friend.
I hope you enjoy the blog, it is fun to write about our impressions and it forces us to pay closer attention.

What a Stunning Blog
What a beautiful virtual scrapebook. It sure beats the table top version, and allows all of us a chance to travel along, if only during a coffee break. Thanks for doing this, and for give us all a chance to vacation with you.
