Due to our desire to conserve funds and being the victims of our first scam of the trip, a 10 pound charge for bread*, Prague was spent mostly meandering around the city, absorbing, like a single sheet of Bounty, the numerous sights and general ambiance of the city. Of particular note were the clock tower, Charles' bridge and Prague Castle. Prague was a picturesque and delightful end to the eastern and central leg of our tour. We are currently preparing for our 24 hour journey to Preuilly-sur-Claise in France with much trepidation. We may not be in contact for a while [View Full Entry]

So I was back to Prague for a few days and it is still one of my favorite places to go, right up there with Ljubljana. So much action. I think there were even more tourists than I remembered from last year though, but you can just walk around those little streets forever. Things are not quite so cheap anymore either due to the bad US dollar--each dollar is not about 14 Czech krowns and I think last year when I went it was 20. Anyway, the hostel was a pretty good location with a gross shower, but not bad overall. [View Full Entry]

I arrived into Dublin from New Zealand last Monday after a pretty grueling 34 hour journey resulting in jet lag, swollen legs, and in need of adjusting to a warmer temperature (and the accents!). I spent a few days looking around Dublin but I will post an Ireland blog later that will include my other explorations to come. It must seem odd, but only after a few days in Dublin, Alan and I decided to go on a "city break", as the locals call it, to Prague - the capital city of the Czech Republic. Not that I really needed a [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! I am writing to you from the cosy basement internet room of a Czech-cafe in Prague, or as the locals call it, Praha. What makes it even more cosy is that 4 of my friends from our tour have joined me, and when we bought our hot chocolates and cakes the internet was free! Unlimited yea :) Prague is absolutely gorgeous. Very 'old town' is all I can think of when I look around, but with a classy edge and spacious feel. Everywhere you look there is Bohemian Crystal, the Czech-equivalent of Swarvoski. It's quite reasonable too! Prague is [View Full Entry]

So, to take up where I ended last time - Balaton Sound. The last days were great, all in the same atmosphere as the first few days. We lazed endlessly in the shade while listening to a house dj in the day, we danced to Fatboy Slim in the evening (what a funny guy...) as he reminded us to be "right here, right now".. Sunday afternoon the heat was getting more and more stuffy while dark ominous clouds were rolling in and they even warned the happy festival campers in the speaker system that there was going to be a lot [View Full Entry]

Today was our fist day in the city of Prague. Our first problem was finding a seat on the train from Berlin, it appeared that every single seat was booked and that we would probably be told to get off at the next stop. But i sent Laura out like a little search party down the train whilst i guarded the bags, she came back with an olive branch, two very lovely chairs. The hostel was only a few stops on the metro away from the station, but unfortunately for us the interior wasn't too great. Add to this the fact [View Full Entry]

Medieval food in Prague
Hello from Prague. We arrived in Eastern Europe yesterday around 5:30. Though it took a bit of map interpretation to decipher the metro system, we got to our hostel...eventually. We were all a bit skeptical of the alleyway reception desk and three levels of security. Sketchiest hostel yet? But after climbing the three long flights of stairs, we discovered that our sleeping arrangements are quite nice. In fact, the breakfast room was only just down the hall. Last night, we were directed to a traditional Czech restaurant which turned out to be a medieval times looking basement. The atmosphere was very [View Full Entry]

We left off earlier with Sam and Eleni heading to meet the boys for the night. We were all reunited, eventually. AND we found the group of British boys that seem to pop up everywhere we go. While Sam stayed to hang out with them, the rest of the group trudged off to find the alleged Metronome. It stands in the exact spot where a massive statue of Stalin used to stand. Apparently it took quite a number of explosives to get rid of that puppy. After walking back accross the river and through a dark park, we came upon a [View Full Entry]
