So we arrived in Prague at about noon on Tuesday after about 4 hours on the train from Berlin, and made our way to the Hostel. We are staying at the Czech Inn, which is a short tram-ride to the centre of town. The breakfast at the Czech Inn is great!!
Prague is a beautiful old city - cobble-stoned roads, with a charming feel to it. It has been very cold and overcast here - going out during the day in 4 layers of clothing and a jacket, and much colder at night! Hopefully the wether will get better in the following few days.
Tuesday
Tuesday we just walked around the old town centre till the late hours of the night. Prauge looks fantastic at night with its old gothic style buildings and tiny paths. We went to see the Astronomical clock and the old Church in the old town square, then weaved our way through the maze of small streets and alleys, then went to the Charles bridge. Some of the alleys look haunted. It's not hard to imagine Dracula running around these medi-evil looking streets!
Wednesday
Sitting on the other side of the river that cuts
Prague in half is the Prague Castle. It's a huge gothic/medi-evil looking thing that watches over the city. We visited it on Wednesday and went on a walking tour of the castle - this was a mistake! The woman took us through the Cathedrals and old rooms that were once the homes of the royal family of Prague. She went on to descibe what materials were used to construct the various floors, rooms and walls of the rooms, the dimensions of the places, and almost every architectual detail you could think of... Not really so interesting to us - I think we were expecting to hear stories of things that went on in the Castle's ground and all the insider gossip of the royal family from generations ago. Either way - it was ok.
We also climed one of the Castle's towers. A 287 step spiral staircase got the heart pumping, but the view from the top was well worth it!
Following our visit to the castle, we did a lap of Prague on the tram for fun, it was very pretty. Its not a very large city - you could probably see the main attractions in under a day.
For dinner, we went for some traditional Czech food and beer, and it was fantastic!!
We then walked around town looking at the bars/clubs, and they all looked quite dead - perhaps because it was a Wednesday night, so we just decided to have an early one.
Thursday
Today we spent the day just walking around the main centre of town again, taking it easy and just soaking up the feel of the place.
Tonight we're going to go out for some more great Czech food and beer, then head to a jazz club. Apparently, its the thing to do here in Prague.
The internet connection speed at this place is very slow, so I will add more pictures tomorrow instead.
Tomorrow - Vienna.
