Well.. Prague isn't exactly the way I expected it to be somehow.. It definitely is beautiful and one of those postcard towns where you can take any photo and it's perfect for a postcard.. the centre of town is completely cobble stoned and has old architecture galore.. It definitely is a pircturesque place..
There is however some downsides.. the Prague locals seem to HATE tourists.. they really don't seem like very friendly people, although, I'm guessing if I were local and spoke Czech.. it would be different.. Also, there have been a couple times where someone has tried to rip me off, by not giving back the right change.. etc.. Because Czech currency is pretty hard to understand (since it's in the hundreds and the coins are coloured completely differently) I guess it's easy to pinch a few dollars here and there.. but oh well!
The first day, I went on a free tour, and walked across charles Bridge.. where there is a statue of a Saint that is incredibly famous. People line up just to take pictures with it.. and kiss it or rub it for good luck.. The actual part of the statue that is kissed and rubbed has been polished to a goldeny colour, and the rest of the statue is a blackish colour.. it looks pretty cool.. I couldn't help but line up get my little rub in there as well, justt for goodluck.. :D
We also found out about random locks that seem to be in random places around the city. Apparently, Russians love to come here to wed, and a tradition, is to close a lock together to symbolize eternity and completeness. It's a really sweet idea really. Apparently, by the end of summer there are hundreds of locks scattered around, and the government pays someone to chop them all off.. but there is one big silver lock, that is always left just as a nice little gesture. I thought that was cute..
We also walked up (A LOT OF STAIRS) to the Prague Castle, which, besides the church, really isn't that impressive. The views from the top, however, are amazing.. You can see all of prague in multiple directions, the stairs definitely are worth it.
Yesterday, I made a daytrip to Kutna Hora. Small town, not really much there, buttttt.. there is this small unsuspecting church. The outside is relatively plain.. surrounded by a gravesight... Nothing but a normal small little church. The INTERESTING thing is... and the reason why so many people go there.. is that the INSIDE is decorated with human bones. Complete with a Bone chandelier, which is made using every bone in the human body, Bone candelabras, 2 huge bone chalices, 4 Bone pyramids, that are not bound by together by anything, and Bone decorations on the walls. It is an incredibly amazing thing to see, and to be honest, it is morbidly beautiful. It was done in the mid 1800's by Rint.. and is still standing today.. It was definitely worth the one hour journey out there for SURE..
But...the best thing about my trip SO far? THE WEATHER!.. it's been amazingly sunny and fantastic. Blue skies, few clouds.. how could I complain! I love summer :D
See you all soon!
