Morning: Today we planned to finally visit the Prague Castle and we want to catch the changing of guards at 12pm so I woke up at abt 9:30am to get ready and go, but as usual we dilly-dallied till about 11+am and left to take tram 23. Unfortunately didnt expect the tram ride to take that long to get to the other side of the Vltava River and all the way up the hill to reach the main entrance of the Prague Castle. In the end we were late for 5 minutes!
Afternoon: When we reached the entrance, it was already packed w people watching the parade so we just squeezed in but the parade was over and they quickly dispersed soon after. We then went to queue up for the tickets into the basilica and golden lane. The tickets were very expensive given that this is Czech Rep, I actually end up spending more here than the other Europe countries. Whoever said it was cheaper here?!!? We then walked around the courtyards and took lots of photos before going into the main area and then we saw the long long queue to the St Vitus Cathedral!! It was really
long, the entire length of the cathedral and the cathedral is huge and long...we immediately decided to skip this part first and come back later. Anyway the weather wasn't too good today, sunshine, rain, sunshine, rain...jus didnt make things any easier for us. We went to the Golden Lane first, where it's not as crowded but we forgot that this is a shopping lane meant to make u spend money so I ended up spending money there. Then we went back to visit the St Georges Basilica, a very old one and no queue at all! But it's a deception, cos when we went in, there's another queue...we didnt know what it's for but as true Singaporeans, we joined the queue. After about half hour later, both of us were peering into a grotto that looks nothing special and realised it was a waste of time to queue up...feeling more pissed, we went and visited the museum of Prague Castle, telling us the history and how everything is preserved which is pretty informative and interesting, showing us how some of the skeletons found are hand-bounded and seemed to be buried alive. By this time, it's already late afternoon and we
thought it would be a good time to visit the St Vitus Cathedral already. Then it started raining, and the queue is still very long but we have already visited all the other places already so we have to queue up so we have to stand in the rain for another half hour before they started ushering everybody in cos it's closing time soon. It's huge and beautiful inside, we walked around and came upon the tower which is 287 steps to go up so WY says no, I went up and the steps were completely winding up non-stop! no break at all! And there's only space for one person so you can't stop cos you will block the entire line. My best climb ever! Felt so satisfied when u finally see the end. Reward is the beautiful view of Prague and that's when i saw a bridge right below that's completely filled w people and i jus sweared to myself thinking that must be Charles Bridge!! And we are supposed to be crossing that one later...After catching my breath back and taking in fresh air, went back down and it got really giddy cos it's jus winding until i
think i got a bit of vertigo for a while and thinking when will this end? Finally reached safely to ground level and left the castle walking down to the Mala Strana, joining the thousands on the Charles Bridge.
Night: We actually got stuck for about 10 minutes on the bridge before we can move w the people there. It's just like New Year's Eve at the most popular place kind of feeling...Along the bridge, there are street vendors and buskers but we didnt really see look at them but the artists drawing sketches of customers are pretty good and fast. We jus quickly walked thru the bridge, we didn't even see the 30 statues along the way, and went back to our hostel early cos we needed to wash our clothes at the laundromat and it closes at 8pm. And then it poured heavily while we are collecting our clothes...and i was wearing my berms and it was f**king cold and wet, and the laundromat was really far from our hostel...how can the day get any better?
