Sept 29th- Oct 8th
So we stayed in Croatia with Nadia and Daniel for the rest of the week. For the most part we didn’t do much, which was actually kin of nice. The weather had definitely turned so there weren’t anymore beach days, but we found a spa with a pool and a gym that we spend some time at. Adam gave me another swimming lesson
One fun thing we did though was this “New wine Festival.” Every year in Kastav they hold a gigantic party with tons of vendors, amusement park rides an most importantly booze. We actually went two nights because the festival lasts all weekend. The first night was Saturday and it was a gong show. Literally everyone in the region comes to this thing. Singing, dancing, jumping, even some fighting…. But the night I really had fun was Monday. This is the last day and apparently it’s tradition that all the men in the area go to Kastav for their lunch break from work then stay a drink the rest of the day. So Adam, myself, Dajana and her friend arrived in the evening to find her brother in law Mauro and all his friends already having a great time. Their was a lot less people but the same great vibe an Mauro and his friends were insistent on us drinking as much as possible. I resisted for a while but then Adam told them I was Albertan and I could hold my alcohol and my pride kicked in. haha. The beginning of the end! Soon we were singing and dancing with the rest of them. Adam kept teaching me swear words in Croatian and I guess it was hilarious to watch the little blonde Canadian girl try to be vulgar in their language. All I could manage to respond was “No resumage Hrvaski,” which I was sure would translate to something like, “ don’t be offended by my swears my d-bag boyfriend is making me say, I don’t speak Croatian so I don’t know what I’m saying.” Haha, anyway the night came to an end and Dajana, bless her, delivered us home in one piece. The next day Adams parents invite us on a coastal road trip and we were pretty much bags of mush the whole day.
On October 8th we had to say goodbye to our Croatian adventure and our new family….and all the amazing food!!! Even though this had been the first time Adam (and I of course) had met these people they opened their arms to us right off the jump and saying goodbye got quite emotional. I couldn’t stay sad too long though, we had a plane to catch to London! And I have to admit I was really excited to be going to an English speaking country. I loved learning bits of Croatian, but three weeks is a long time to not understand anything.
