First story:
Until 1632, when four village parishes were founded, the area of Labin parish was considerably larger than today. The villages are: Skitača, Sv. Lovreč, Sv. Martin and Sv. Nedjelja. Apart from the diminished area of jurisdiction, the Labin parish also had less income. Therefore, laments were directed towards the bishop and Venice mentioning pauperization of the parish of Labin (town close to
Rabac ,
Istria ) by this change, quoting that the parish was “submitted to hunger and destruction”. Pastor Giovanni Battista Toscan Cargnel was one of the pastors moaning the sad destiny of the Labin parish for a very long time.
It is interesting to mention his will: he left behind 3 houses, herds of cattle, 8 bags of ducats and other gold coins, 2 parcels of land and an inventory of furniture.
Second story:
The property of the deceased who died without offspring was always divided into three parts: one part went to the church, second to the podestà and the third to the municipality. In case a man had offspring, the will was three-fold as well: one part went to the church for the salvation of the soul of
the deceased, second to the offspring and third to Venice. Very often, priests were also notaries - meaning that they were the ones who wrote the text of the will.
